Ladies who already have babies. . .

Just wondering since I saw Aria's post about saving up for a "boy".

When do you plan on trying for #2?  Or are you not even sure if (or when) you will add baby #2 to the fam?

Just being nosy.  In a perfect world I would love to have 4 years between my two kids.

Re: Ladies who already have babies. . .

  • I dont technically have one yet, but I turn 35 the month after she gets here, so ideally I would like the second within two years.
  • We decided that we'd start trying again after Scarlett's first birthday (my 33rd) at the end of July.  We will probably have a better handle on our financial picture by then.

There may be some postponing, because we will have to consider I won't have nearly as much paid leave time saved up.  I want to have him (or her) before 35.

And then I AM DONE.  No matter what J says.  I miss my sleep!

  • We thought we would start trying before Evan turns 1, but now we have no idea. With the move (and the sleep deprivation, and the "oh, god, can't imagine having 2 kids right now" conversations) we'll wait until we see how our finances look before trying.

But the idea is to have 2 under 2 (yup, we're crazy like that... but mostly we want to them to be close together so play together, and we want to be done with it sooner rather than later)

  • I don't totally qualify yet, but...

our plan at the moment is to TTC for #2 around Christmas 2010 - so ours would be as close as 14 months apart - but if it takes us a year of TTC again, they will be closer to 2 years apart.

Right now, we've decided that we won't try for #2 much past DH's 40th Birthday in January 2013.

I don't have any babies yet so have nothing to add to this but just wanted to say that I love the St. Patty's Day pictures of your little one! She is so adorable.

  • Well, technically I'm not qualified as I'm only baking #1, but the plan is to wait until this one is about 2 before we start TTC #2.  That way, hopefully they'll be ~3 years apart.

  • I want to enjoy Bebe for a while without adding to my responsibilities . . so if we decide to have another baby we won't be trying until she is at least 3.  I'm 32 now, so I hope mother nature will be kind to me and go with my plans.

Theres almost 10 years between my brother and I . . . I love our age gap . . . and want something similar for our family.  We never competed with each other and are really close, so I'm hoping the same will happen for my own children.

FWIW, I think you are all CRAZY for thinking of a #2 so darned soon!  I can't even imagine!!!!!  Stick out tongue

  • I agree.  I think it's nuts, but I feel so old already!  Ideally, I'd put 5 years between them, so they wouldn't be competitive like my sister and me.
  • We are on the younger side of things (I'm 24, DH is 25) and I can't handle 2 under 3.  So probably around fall of 2012.

But I have the fever and have to remind myself to sloooow down.

It's an age thing for us.  DH is already diabetic, his family has a history of heart attacks, and I didn't exactly hit the genetic jackpot either!  Embarrassed

Also - If I am going to take a career break to raise the babies, I'd prefer if they were closer together, so I can get back to my career sooner when they are past the infant stage.

I can understand that.  I love the idea of doing 2 really fast and being done, or spacing 3 babies out 5 years at a time.  But I also have baby fever like I mentioned.  At this point, I wouldn't be devastated to have an accidental BFP.
