DH is turning the big 4-0 later this month. Yes, we're old (I'm 36). We're having a party (not a surprise) and I'm in charge of planning. I'm considering a costume party (dress as movie characters) b/c DH loves movies and Halloween). I'm also considering everyone dress in 70's clothes since that's when he was born. I've also toyed with telling DH it's a costume party and surprise him by having everyone else show up dressed as elderly people (to make him feel young). I'm making a 3-tiered cake with black fondant and silver 40's on it. Which party ideas do you like? Any other ideas/thoughts would be appreciated!
ps one of our neighbors just turned 40 and someone put 40 black plastic flamingos in his yard. . .it was hilarious!
Re: 40th birthday party ideas
I love them both! Though, if you do go with the guests dress as their favorite movie character, you could also turn that into a game--though you'd have to have some cooperation from your guests. You could find out what character each person is coming as and find a famous quote from the movie (not from their character preferably). Compile your quotes and have the guests figure out what character and actor from the movie said it. You'd be surprised at how surprisingly hard some are, and how easy others will be because some people may only know the actor or might only know the character, but not both.
On the other hand, I'd want to see pictures of an all-old person's party. That'd just be freaking hilarious.
Love this idea! LOL!
OMG--that would be so hilarious!! It's not like you work in a hospital or anything, maybe borrow a few extras for a night??
