3D movies
So it seems like lately that everyone and their dog are making movies to be viewed in 3D. Do you think this is just a trend or that it's the future of moviedom?
Ben and I were talking about it tonight...he thinks it will be the way that all movies and TV will be, especially since 3D is part of the blu ray spec.
I'm not so sure. 3D tends to give me a headache in a way that standard film doesn't for some reason (apparently this is true for around 20% of people), plus I hate having to wear the special glasses, which are never the right length for my head and are uncomfortable. And since I don't wear contacts, the glasses have to be stacked on top of my real glasses which is just awkward as ass - I know I'm not alone in this, since a lot of people either choose not to or simply can't wear contacts.
I suppose these aren't insurmountable problems - maybe the technology can be improved in a non-headache inducing way, and perhaps eventually we'll all have Lasik and no one will wear regular glasses (plus we'll have our own fitted 3D glasses) - but I just don't see 3D becoming the primary mode of entertainment in the next 10 years or so, which is the length of time I've heard mentioned.

I think it's cool for movies with CGI or other animation but I don't think I'd like it for all live action films. I don't need all my chick flicks to be in 3D.
So far we've seen UP and Avatar in 3D and both were awesome. I'm so excited for Alice in 3D, too.
This is a good point! Even though I'm not a huge fan of 3D, I AM excited about Toy Story 3 later this year...but I don't think I need to see the next version of Pride and Prejudice in 3D, know what I mean?

i have two responses to this-first is the industry response-movie theatres are having trouble getting people in to see movies-now with feature films coming out a mere 12 weeks on dvd after theatrical release, and the great televisions that people have in their homes-why go to the movies-with 3D and Imax 3D (my personal favorite) theatres are seeing more and more people heading into the theaters-so yes this will be a trend that continues in the future-the technology will get better-however a 3d televesion from samsung i think is going to be available for home purchase next year.
my personal response-the first 3D movie i saw was AVatar in Imax 3D and I am HOOKED-i will be making magic brownies from now til kingdom come since that also seems to enhance the 3D experience-i can't wait to see alice in wonderland, toy story 3, the imax hubble space station and the kelly slater film-however for random art films and chick flicks no real interest in seeing them in 3D not certain if it is really necessary. I also hope that they get the technology better and improve those miserable uncomfortable glasses-just my thoughts
I suppose it depends on who plays Mr. Darcy, if I want to see him pop out on the screen or not.
Just kidding, I totally agree. As for 3D action, I get motion sick very easily. I was able to stomach Avatar in the 3D theater, but I got a bit queasy when I saw Avatar at 3D IMAX. I can't wait to se Alice and I'll try it in 3D. But if I continue to get sick at the movies, it's not worth the 10+ dollars. I did read an article that movie makers are working closely with scientists to ensure a pleasant 3D experieince for everyone. I guess when you watch a 3D movie, your brain is constantly making focusing adjustments to compensate for the virtual 3D world you are seeing.
