XP: I'm Home! (Long, TMI)

I arrived home about 2 hours ago. The surgery went well and my doc did find endometriosis. Poor DH, the waiting room staff asked him to go to the chapel because the doctor wanted to talk to him. He waited for about 10 min. and was freaking out with all these brocheres around him about loss and grieving. When the doc came in and told him I was fine he said he had been worried because they put him in the chapel. She was deeply apologetic and explained that all the consultation rooms were full and that's why they sent him there. The staff felt so bad they gave him a $5 coupon to the cafeteria, haha.

Here is where the TMI starts so be forewarned. My doc told Jason what she found and showed him pictures, but I won't get to go over things with her until my post-op visit in about 2 weeks so I had to get things secondhand. There was a ring of endo and scar tissue that had formed around one of my ovaries (he couldn't remember which, but based on my pain and pain before the surgery I'm 99% sure it was my right one) and was constricting the ovary. There was some kind of name for it that she told Jason, but he couldn't remember. She was able to remove it so hopefully that will help with my symptoms. She also said that I will either continue on the pill I am on now ( 3 months on, 1 week off) or switch to a shot. Now this is the tricky part. Jason and I have discussed TTC in a year as long as we can afford a child, so I would like to stay on the pill and switch to the shot after baby. My doc told him the goal is to have as few periods as possible because with each period the scar tissue will grow back. She also told him I will probably need a hysterectomy in about 15 years.

I'm staying optimistic about being able to concieve and all that. I definetly do NOT want to go through this again. My throat is really sore from being intubated and all I've been able to eat is a pudding cup. The gas they used to blow up my belly has already settled into my shoulders, especially the right one, causing a lot of pain if I sit up or stand. When I asked the nurse at the hospital if I could take some gas-x for it she looked confused and said it really wouldn't make a difference. I just took some so we will see who's right! I didn't like one of my nurses all that much. She gave me vicodin and when I said it wasn't making a difference another nurse gave me a second. When the first nurse came back and I said my pain level was still the same she pretty much didn't believe me and said they weren't going to give me anything else....b!tch! Aside from her everyone else was really nice. In fact, my nurse in recovery was someone I knew! She is one of my sorority sisters, small world! One other not-so-plesant thing is that my bladder is taking it's time getting back to normalEmbarrassed I thought they would want to have me pee before they released me from the hospital, but I couldn't go and got really dizzy so I had to go back to bed. The b!tchy nurse didn't care after that and just wanted to get me out of there. I've been able to go at home, but things aren't quite 'normal'. Hopefully this will resolve when the anesthia wears off.

I apologize, I know this post is all over the place and I'm sure there are spelling errors, maybe it's the drugs. Thank you ladies for all your well wishes!

Oh, and I was nervous for nothing. The anesthisologist was really nice and after he gave me some anti-anxiety meds I didn't remember much. I think I was out before he even gave me anesthia!Smile

  • OMG Sarah I didn't even know you were going through this! I'm so sorry you've been in pain, and that you had to deal with shitty nurses, but at least the worst is behind you. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!
  • I'm glad your doing well and at least have a better idea of what's going on.  But I'm really sorry you have to go through all of this and hope things continue to improve.

  • I hope you have a speedy recovery! At least you have some answers now, and I'm sure things will be much clearer when you get to talk to your doctor personally. That must have been a lot of information for you husband to take in all at once.
  • Glad to hear that surgery went well.  I hope your recovery goes smoothly and quickly!
  • Good to hear you are home & resting, and glad you were able to find somethings out! Stick out tongue to the mean nurse! Get well soon!

  • Wow you had a full day! I'm glad she was able to remove the scar tissue. Hopefully the pain will subside soon. I don't know why there always has to be one b!tchy nurse. Every time DH has been in the hospital (he's accident prone so there's been a few times in the last 7 1/2 years) there is always one nurse who has her panties in a bunch. I hope you start feeling better very soon!
