I really try not to rock the boat at work. I work with 15 people, I like 3 of them. The rest of them are kind of "eh" to me but I don't want to cause drama so. . . .
Me and my co-worker G were discussing something that I can't even remember now and we were trying to argue that it was a "generational thing" being that I am 28 and he is 26. Well a client was standing at the desk when G and I were talking and we asked him if he knew XYZ, he said "no" and I asked him how old he was, thinking he was younger than me. He said "38"!!! Whoa, I told him he looked very young and he agreed that he did because of his "baby face" blah blah blah.
Flash forward about 2 minutes after the client left. My co-worker T comes up and says oh, that guy and his dog were really cute! I say "yeah, and he looks really good for his age too! he's 38, didn't he look good for his age?". T is 44 BTW. So T says "what did you say?", I thought she had not heard me so I repeated myself and she says "do you even know who you are talking to?". At this point I'm stunned and thinking "did I just offend her somehow?". So I said "I'm not saying he was old just that he looked good for his age". T did not say anything. I proceed "I think you took what I said the wrong way," all I get from her is an "uh huh" with MAJOR attitude. T then walked away, pissed.
Would you have been offended in this situation? I just don't understand because my comment really had nothing to do with her and I really feel she was being WAY too sensitive.
Re: Would you have been offended?
She's clearly uncomfortable with herself.
No, I wouldn't be offended.
LOL, I make fun of my co-workers all the time because they're all old enough to be my father. Every time they mention a date prior to Feb. 1981 I remind them that I wasn't even born yet. And they don't even get offended!
I agree with Lorelai, some people are just overly sensitive.
I have a coworker is kind of age sensitive too. Most of us are under 30 and she's like 42 or something. I could care less, but she always sets it up as a "us vs. them" thing and tries to rope my 39 year old manager in with her too . . . He is not interested.
I don't get it, but then again I'm apparently one of my only friends who isn't upset about nearing 30 . . . who cares? I was a dumb ass in my early 20's - here's getting older and wiser!
My words exactly!
very true.
