Hair salon rec's - downtown Alb or Bethlehem area

This might be a long shot, but... can anyone recommend a hair salon proximate to either downtown Albany or Delmar?

I used to go to one in Clifton Park, but shortly after I moved to Bethlehem, I got really tired of fighting traffic on 9 and 87 to go north to Clifton Park to get haircuts.  It only took a couple for me to decide to grow my hair out instead of deal with it!

My hair really needs a trim now, though, and I'm thinking of doing short again, which requires haircuts every 5 weeks.  I have natural spiral curls that not everyone is good at dealing with.  I'd like to find somewhere close to work or home.  Anyone know of anywhere good?

  • I recently started going to ania hair studio by x-gates (so not really downtown, but not too far).  The only reason I'm even recommending them is because they have ouidad certified stylists who specialize in curly hair.

My hair is pin straight, so I didnt see a ouidad stylist, but I thought I would pass the info along...

  • My hair is pretty low maintenance.  I usually go to A Perfect Cut on Lark Street.  The girl I always went to left recently to go back to school but the person who cut my hair the last time was pretty good.

When I used to get highlights I went to Jean Paul in Stuyvesant Plaza but they were too expensive to maintain.  It's a nice place but you have to know pretty specifically what you want otherwise they will "experiment."

  • My sister cuts hair just south of Delmar.  Not sure if you want to drive 10 minutes south since you mentioned going north.
  • Where, Dar?  I spend most of my time driving north, but driving 10 minutes south is better than 45 north any day.

Hockey, thanks for that rec.  Crossgates is at least easier than Clifton Park.  I am still debating whether to go with a trim or a higher maintenance short cut, but the curls are such a problem.

  • She works at the Hair'em salon in Ravena.
  • I've been going to Townsend and Company on the corner of Madison and South Swan in Albany. It's one of those places with a few "tiers" of stylists, with different prices for each. I usually see Betsy- my hair is way overdue, it's snarling up a storm =(

  • I go to Jenn Schmidt at NuEnz Hair Design on Adams St. in Delmar (right off the 4 corners). She was actually in CP, but opened her own place when she moved to Delmar.
