Hi. I live in Houston but my friend is getting married in Austin and she asked me to be her officiant. I am wondering if anyone else did something like this in the Austin area? I don't know if there is some protocol that I need to follow. I know that I can get ordained online. Is that enough and I can just sign the marriage license or do I need to register in Travis county or anything?
Thanks for any feedback and advice.
Re: friend as officiant Q?
My husband is actually ordained and performed the ceremony for his sister. I'm almost positive he didn't have to register with the county or anything. I did talk to him though and he couldn't remember for sure. He thinks he just did whatever it said online when he was ordained.
I started typing this before I talked to him and was hoping to be a little more helpful...
I had a good friend get officiated via the internet to marry us. From the research I did, that was enough, and all he did afterwards was sign the marriage license, no registration required.
:-)
