Biltmore Estate

Hi I am from Houston and we will be staying in Gatlinburg for spring break.

We are going week after next for our anniv. and was wondering of some good romantic restaurants in the area Biltmore Estate area.

Also what else is there to do in Ashville and how long will it take us from Gatlinburg to get to Ashville?

Re: Biltmore Estate

  • I've never driven Gatlinburg-Asheville, but Google Maps says it's about 2 hours.

On Biltmore property, I think the Bistro is romantic.  In the city of Asheville, we've really only ever done casual meals.

Are you spending the night in Asheville?  If not, I wouldn't plan on doing much more than Biltmore.  You can easily spend the entire day there.  Downtown Ashville is fun to wander around if you have a little more time.  The Grove Park Inn is nice for a drink or you could eat up there, I never have, but their restaurants look nice.

    Have fun, I love Biltmore!

  • The trip usually takes 1.5 hours but with I-40 being closed at the Tennessee border it may take longer. Check on mapquest without going on I-40.

Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village is delish! And they do reservations online through OpenTable.com

    The Corner Kitchen is delish!

  • We went to the Bistro at Biltmore and it was SO good, DH still talks about his food.

  • We just went to Gatlinburg last month.  With the detour on I40 it took about 2.5 hours to get from Gatlinburg to Asheville.  It's quite a hike with that detour....

Is there a better way to go with I40 being closed?

  • If you want to splurge, The Dining Room at the Inn at Biltmore Estate is fabulous. It's the nicest of all 4 restaurants on the estate grounds. The Bistro is decent, but doesn't hold a candle to The Dining Room in both atmosphere & food.

    Off property, check out Savoy.

The detour is listed on the mapquest site.  It's a NC scenic highway.  The way the GPS tried to take us is all back roads.  DH had been that way before and says it takes even longer.
