We went baby stuff shopping today to get odds and ends that we hadn't bought yet. We're doing disposable diapers for the first 6 weeks or so, until our babies are large enough to fit into a "small" size of CD (I can't talk Ben into prefolds and I don't want to buy a stash of fitteds or AIOs for that short of a period of time). So among the stuff we bought was two big boxes of newborn 'sposies.
Ben looked at them and said, "Wow! So I guess we're set for diapers for a while, right?" I glanced at the boxes and replied, "Well, each box has 144 diapers. A newborn goes through around 12 - or sometimes more - diapers per day. So one box takes care of one baby for 12 days. That means that these two big boxes will last less than 2 weeks for the twins."
The look on the poor man's face was priceless. I think he thought that it would be like 4-5 changes a day. ![]()
Re: BR: heh, poor DH is in for a shock
haha!
Especially if they are like Jack - I swear he WAITS for a clean diaper before continuing to poop - even if I wait for what seems like a long time.
I'm sure my DH was shocked too once he realized how many diapers we go through.
No kidding! At $38 a box, we'd be in the poorhouse if we were planning on using disposables the entire time.
Yep. She's closer to 12-16 now...she also loves a fresh diaper and then pees. So we'll change her, get the other diaper under her and she pees, so then we have to change her again.
As for Ben...sounds like J regarding STTN and sleeplessness for parents before Libby arrived:
"Well that only lasts like two weeks, right?"
Ha ha ha...more like two years!

i think babies just know when they have a fresh diaper b/c miss A does the same thing. i will wait for 10 min after she poops to change her and as soon as i put a clean one on her, she poops again!! LOL of course not every time but it sure seems like a lot of the time!
honestly, we got some good use of the orange edge (xs size) PFs (and AIOs) with miss A. she was 7lbs4oz at birth but about 6lb5oz at discharge from the hospital..and she wore that size until she was 12 weeks old! do they have a guess as to what size the boys will be? i know that twins have smaller birth weights but i also know that GD babies are also bigger...so not sure how that affects things. but for us, that size was well worth the money

Not really at this stage. So far they're on track for a normal birthweight, BUT because they'll be born earlier it's really hard to say.
If I could sell the smaller sizes afterward it would be worth the $$$, but because CDs are more expensive here (double the cost) and there's not much of a secondhand CD market in Australia (plus I've NEVER seen secondhand size XS for sale, so there appears to be no market for those), we wouldn't save much - if any - money, unfortunately. I did crunch the numbers at one stage, and it was pretty much a wash. If they turn out to be really heavy pee-ers or something, I may reconsider though.
