officially resigned :(

I'm still in such shock that it came to this (since I've done nothing wrong...) but I found that it was in my best interest to resign from the district rather than go through the non-renewal process. I'm relieved that I won't have to deal with with this awful principal after June... but I'm sad that I probably won't be teaching next fall :(

I will apply to all the nearby districts and charter schools, but the chances of finding something are slim... not in this economy and with a not-so-great recommendation. I'm just so sad right now... this sucks Sad

  • I'm so sorry it came to this, Sera [:]

I can't imagine...Michigan is so tough right now for teachers...it's just super lame, and I don't know what else to say other than sorry...yuck.

What did your union have to say about this?  Wasn't there anything they could do?

  • The union tried to help... but unfortunately in Michigan there are no laws to protect non-tenured teachers and first year teachers have absolutely no support! The school can let you go without cause... which is basically what happened. They said the reason they would not renew my contract was based on curriculum knowledge and classroom management (well it IS my first year here!). Union said that was ridiculous but that there was nothing they could do :(
  • Thanks for all the support ladies!!!

Now I need to update my resume and start filling out applications for other districts! blahhh Crying

  • At the end of the school year you will breathe a huge sigh of relief though.  Is their anyone higher up that can give you a positive letter of recommendation and that you can use as a contact rather than your principal?  Things will get better.

Thanks! Although part of the deal for resigning was that the principal would write me a letter of rec, I probably won't use the letter anyway and will put the head of HR down as the contact person instead... not sure how that will go over but she is much more professional than my principal and has been very nice to me through out the process. She actually encouraged me to apply to any non-certified positions within the district so I don't think she would say anything negative about me if someone called her.
