Hey ladies,
My husband has been laid off for almost a year now (he's an electrician) and things are become really really tight ... to the point where we don't know if we're going to be able to pay our mortgage. I have been posting an advertisement for his electrical services on Craigslist, but could you think of any other site we could advertise (and not spend the extra cash)? I know, it probably doesn't exist, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Thanks.
Re: Places to advertise
How about spreading the word about his services through facebook. Post something on your status (if you have FB) and ask all of your friends to do the same thing.
Or what about local associations he might be a member of? They may have some kind of posting board?
You could make up fliers and do it the old fashioned way. Post fliers at grovery stores, coffee shops, etc..... The cost of printing will be cheaper than anything else.
Good luck! My H was out of work for 14 months, it's not fun.
I was also going to suggest fliers with those pull-off tab thingies. Make sure it states how much experience he has, any specialties, and list both an e-mail address and a phone number for contact info.
Are there any contractors he could network with?
I second this. If he has any connections with people that he has worked with in the past it would be huge to work off of those. So much of the working on homes related businesses is based on referrals and references by people who you have worked with already. Make sure he lets his friends and connections know that he is trying to put himself out there so they can also mention his name if they happen to talk with anyone who could utilize his services.
