Stopping then re-starting birth control pills

I had been on birth control pills for about 5 years. My husband and I have discussed TTC in the next few months, so I stopped taking them. Then, after more discussion we realized it would be best if we waited like a year to TTC.

So I have been off BC for about two weeks now and since we are waiting I am wondering if I should just start taking them again, or wait until I get my period? Is me being off them and starting back up after two weeks going to mess up my body? I just don't like condoms at all so I figured I can take my BC for another half a year and then stop them when we are a few months before TTC.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Re: Stopping then re-starting birth control pills

  • I stopped the pill and recently went back on. Because my cycle starts mid month, I started at the beginning of the month. You are SUPPOSED to start after your period.

If you want more clarification I would call your doctor.

  • Yes, you need to start on a new pack just like you did when you began BCP. So, after your period you can start taking it again.

  • I just posted something similiar on the health and fitness board...

was wondering if it is bad to stop BCP then start a few months later.  Not ready to have children yet, but tired of taking the pill.
