Where did you honeymoon?

We want to go on a big vacation in the next year or so. Where did everyone honeymoon? I'm looking for ideas!

We did Sandals in St. Lucia and it was great, but I want to go somewhere different.

Re: Where did you honeymoon?

  • We went to Grand Bahama Island.  It was amazing.
  • We went to Greece. Athens and then the island of Santorini. We had an amazing time!
  • We went to Aruba but I didn't really care for the island overall.

We're going to Hawaii in September and I'm so excited! I'd also really love to go to Italy.

I've also been to Australia and I'd go back in a heart beat.

  • We went to Bali.  It was good, but not my favorite vacation ever.  That's partly because DH didn't really plan any activities for us though.

Our best vacation was probably our 5-week trip around Asia.  I'd also recommend Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Spain, Italy... :)

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • We spent our honeymoon on St. Thomas and loved it, we also took a day trip to St. John's and the BVI are close enough to do day trips as well.

If I had my druthers I'd do a second honeymoon in Central America, Costa Rica and Belize, I'd love to see the rain forests and hike and spend a few days on Caye Caulker a small key off the coast of Belize.

Or, if I had a few weeks I'd love to do South America, I feel like Brazil alone would need at least a week.  And then there's always the Mediterranean, it would be so much fun to work your way from the South of France to Greece.

Um, I think about this a lot... I probably could just sit around and plan lovely vacations all day, let us know where you end up!

  • We did a Sandals on St Lucia as well (we went to the Regency).  We liked it and had a great time, but DH and I agree that we don't know we'd go back.

DH has been to Turks and Caicos and really liked it - it's on my list of places to go.  I'm also a fan of Aruba.  And I really want to go to Costa Rica

  • We went to Puerto Vallarta... it is really pretty but I wouldn't go back. It's a great place to go and relax but there isn't a lot of sightseeing there. We stayed at the Dreams Resort.

  • The Dominican Republic. We stayed at Th Excellence in Punta Cana. The resort was very nice but I was not a huge fan of the DR itself.
  • We went to Northern California for our honeymoon. We stayed in Napa Valley and took day trips to San Francisco, Monterey, Sacramento, Lake Tahoe and even spent a night in Reno, Nevada.

We haven't done any tropical trips yet but I really want to go to Turks and Caico's too. It's my aunt and uncles favorite because it's not commercialized (no DD or McDonalds).

And DH and I are planning on a Europe trip for one of our anniversarys (either Ireland, Italy or Greece).

  • We flew into San Diego and then spent 2 weeks driving up the coast. We were in San Diego, LA, Cambria, San Francisco and ended with 4 days in wine country.

I think if we were to do it again we'd spend the whole time in just San Fran & wine country..it was gorgeous and the food was incredible!

  • We went to Costa Rica though we went to Belize a few years ago and I recommend that as well. We are on our way to Punta Cana in 6 weeks so I can let you know how that is too, if you like. I will warn you we are only there for 4 days and are staying at an AI- doubtful we'll even leave the resort area. We just really need to get away, go somewhere warm, where all we can do is water sports and lay around for a few days.

So funny you say that. We went to CA for our 1 year anniversary. We started in SF, went to Napa, then drove to monterey, Santa Barbara and ended in LA and in retrospect, we would have stayed the entire time in SF and Napa, they were clearly the best of all of the towns we went to!

  • We stayed at the El Dorado Royale in Mayan Riviera. I loved it. We stayed in a Swim up pool casita. It was so pretty and I liked how we had our own little pool attached to our casita.

    Here is the website.

  • Thanks for all the great suggestions! I'm hoping for Greece, but it's hard when we're TTC, we have no idea what 2011 will bring us!

    Same here.

If you are open to Mexico for this vaca, go. to. Playa. del. Carmen. Seriously, it's AMAZING. We cannot wait to go back, and wish we went there for our honeymoon instead (even though we had already been the year before).

  • We went to the Sandals Royal Caribbean in Jamaica - HATED it. The service, food, weather (not their fault but still), the activities, the staff - everything - HATED IT.

I have been to Jamaica, Mexico and Costa Rica as a kid and I loved all of them!!!

We are planning to go to Europe - England, France, Greece, Ireland and Italy for my graduation trip in 2014. (LOL - so far away.) :-)

My mom loves California and I love Florida.

    HTH and have fun! :-)

  • We took a cruise out of NYC to Bermuda. It was amazing. We got 2 days on the ship then two and half days on the island and then a day and a half on the ship on the way back. We're planning to go back for our 5 yr anniversary.

  • We are going to Maui for a week for our honeymoon.  (Yes, I'm on the Nest a little early, the wedding isn't until April- but the wedding is planned and I'm more concerned with starting our new life in Boston than comparing invitations.  Besides, this board is more fun.)  I'm going to the Keys in a few weeks with my girls for the last big blowout, and I told FI that I wanted our next big vacation to be a Mediterranean tour- Italy, Greece, Turkey, etc.  We have also done a trip to CA- I'm originally from San Diego.  We flew into LA to visit FI's brother for a few days, then rented a car and drove to San Diego and spent a few days there.  We went in the middle of summer, when Atlanta was unbearable, and San Diego was amazing, just as I remembered it.  Definitely a great place to go, but not really a big production, tropical vacation, or romantic getaway.  More of a nice, simple trip.

  • I'm late on replying here, but we went on a cruise through the Greek Islands.  It was awesome, and actually not too expensive.  I think that the cruise lines are hurting for customers right now.
  • we got married at and honeymooned at Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau.  loved it!!
  • We went to Sweden (stayed around Stockholm) and Iceland (Reykjavik, with an afternoon excursion further south/inland). We had a fantastic time, and we're absolutely going back to Iceland (hopefully also Sweden).

  • Oh, and we are talking about going to Italy for our 10 year anniversary. That will largely depend on the kid situation though.
  • We went to to the Cuisinart Resort and Spa on Anguilla and loved it there.  The island has FABULOUS restaurants and it's safe enough to drive around explore.  The beaches are gorgeous too.  It was a perfect, relaxing vacation.

Oooh, how was that trip? I'm hoping to go to Sweden sometime (my great grandmother is from Vastervik), particularly in the middle of June. I'm sure it would be crazy busy though.

  • We went to Fiji and stayed at the Likuliku Resort. It was FAB and I would highly recommend it.

it was wonderful. we went in the middle of september and the weather was great touristy weather- we need a light jacket in the evening but it was never exactly hot, and it was mostly sunny. I'd love to go in june or early july just to see the all-day sunlight, DH says it's really cool. i should ask him how busy it was when he was there at the beginning of july compared to in september.?

This resort is AMAZING looking and definitely a once in a lifetime place! Might be out of our budget though.

  • Not going to be much help - we went to the Sandals Grande in St Lucia ourselves.
  • We went to Hawaii - the islands of Kauai and Maui, both excellent.  Best vacation ever... though I also loved Scotland and Italy.
