One of our company's "things" is that we don't have a receptionist. A skilled worker will always answer your call. So I'm one of the first responder phone people. It's just joyous, let me tell you. Here's a gem I just got.
Me: Thank you for calling company, this is Bunnybean speaking, how may I help you?
Rude Lady: Is [my boss] in today?
Me: May I please ask who's calling?
Rude Lady: Rude Lady's name.
Me: Thank you, just one moment please!
...me transferring and boss not picking up...
Me: I'm sorry, she's away from her desk right now. Would you like to leave a voicemail?
Rude Lady: Ok, what I said is, "Is [my boss] in the office?" Is she? That's all I want to know.
Me: Yes.
Rude Lady: Ok then, put me to her voicemail.
Me: (no further words, just transferred her away)
Weirdly enough, I just googled her name, and if I'm spelling it properly she has some sort of anti stress business. I wonder if being exceedingly rude and pedantic is part of de-stressing?
Re: NER: Ah, the joys of being on the phone team at my office
Oh no! What a weird woman. It's not unusual for someone to be in the office but away from her desk.
Where I'm temping now the admin assistants work different hours from me so toward the end of the day I sometimes get stuck answering the phone. Even the managing attorney does, so it's not that it's beneath me or anything, but I hate it too! Not only is there a risk of having an impatient or rude caller, but the phone system still confuses me. I sweat about transferring calls to the right mailbox. Very stressful work!
I HATE the phone. I wish everyone would just communicate through email. It would make my life a billion times easier lol
We have receptionists here, but we still get high phone volume and I answer the phone for myself and the 2 people I assist.
I have a voicemail right now that I am avoiding lol
I think it is HILARIOUS if she really is the woman that owns the de-stressing company. Ah the irony.
