Like wedding planning in reverse, only more boring!
So I just checked my "for sale" page, and realized that I have sold all but 10 of the 54 items I started with. The good news is, this means that I've gotten back nearly $3,000 from all this, which puts my net wedding budget back to pretty close to what I wanted. The bad news is, it's been over 5 months already, and this is still not over. I am thinking it is going to take as much time to get rid of all the wedding stuff as it took to plan the wedding in the first place!
Anyone else thoroughly tired of this stuff?
Re: Like wedding planning in reverse, only more boring!
I'm impressed too! I'm selling a few things but they're very small items. I've only gotten a couple of bites and the last person who was interested backed out because buying mine would only be like $10 less than buying from the store... the total was only $40! I think $40 is better than $50! It's not like it was $400 vs. $410! :sigh: Oh well...
Plus, my for sale crap is in my bio and new brides will never see the link to my bio because I really only post HERE!
We did sell one of the two dresses, but only for $250. We bought it for $450, and sold it on the basis that the buyer had to arrange for the cleaning, so that wasn't bad, but it still wasn't a big proportion of it.
Most of the stuff we sold was reception stuff. We had everything from linens (34 tablecloths, 80 chair covers and sashes, 220 napkins, and 220 napkin holders) to 127 paper lanterns with various kinds of DIY lighting. We also had all the plates, glasses, flatware, etc. Our reception venue was a club rather than a traditional reception venue, so we had to supply almost everything beyond tables and chairs. And I figured out early on that we would do a lot better buying stuff and reselling it than renting.
Actually, the funniest item was one of my "mistake" purchases. I bought 72 pillowcases from a company that sells to hotels, thinking I was going to use them as chair back covers. Later, I decided to go with real chair covers. No one was showing any signs of wanting to buy 72 pillowcases. (Gee, I wonder why not!) We therefore decided to keep a dozen or so for ourselves, and to sell the rest in pairs on eBay. Notwithstanding the fact that ours are about the cheapest pillowcases on eBay, I've already made back more than I paid for the whole lot of them, and still have eight more pairs to sell. And of course, we now have a large supply of pillowcases for ourselves!
I think by the wedding, we had two full rooms of our house that had been taken over by wedding stuff. We're now down to just a part of one room, but I am ready to have all this over with.
