I tried taking my sister to a nice restaurant tonight for her birthday dinner (Bing ladies...it's on Conklin Ave and has a wood fire grill). We were able to walk in with no reservation and sat down. And sat. And sat. And sat.
Twenty minutes later .. we had been passed numerous times by two waitresses and never asked if we wanted water.
We left and on the way out I asked the hostess if there was confusion and she said that she had pointed us out to one of the waitresses right after we sat down.
This situation really irks me because I've always had such a nice experience with the food and service. We've (hubby and I and hubby's family) celebrated graduations, birthdays and anniversaries there. I've promoted this restaurant to co-workers (Drs and pharmacists and technicians at the hospital, new co-workers in the county government building and even here on the Nest) and I have a sneaky suspicion we were overlooked on purpose.
It's a restaurant where business casual is the norm and my sister definitely didn't fit in (she had baggy clothes on-polo shirt and jeans- and she has short hair that wasn't noticeable until she took off her baseball hat about 10 minutes into sitting...so her gender was obviously questionable and she has a bunch of tattoos). Neither of us were grungy, so I don't understand why a waitress wouldn't stop by and say "has anyone asked for your drink order yet?". I don't know if I didn't look like I was going to drop major cash, but either way....HMPH!
WWYD????
Re: How to handle restaurant problem? =(
I would treat it as an isolated incident but call the manager and have a talk with her/him and explain your history of patronage (sp) and how much it bothered you that you seemed to be completely ignored.
Good luck.?
Oh no Sara! I saw your post on FB and am so disappointed for you. I've only been there once and we really liked it.
I agree with September. I'd call the manager and just explain what happened and that you were disappointed. They should definitely know how you were treated, and I think it's something any business would want to know. Good luck!
