BC - Is this normal?

In February I started on birth control again for the first time in almost three years.  Normally, while I was not on BC, my periods are 4 days long every 28 days, they were always right on schedule.  Now that I'm on, my period was a few days late (which I was expecting), but, I'm in my 9th day of my period!!  I'm kind of freaking out because I'm scheduled to leave for holidays in 13 days, and I've been told that until my body gets used to the estrogen levels my lining will keep regenerating, and my body will just keep discarding it.  I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE MY PERIOD WHILE ON VACATION!  I want to have fun!  Should I be looking at other methods and getting off of what I'm currently on?

Re: BC - Is this normal?

  • Talk to your doctor about it. Maybe he has you on a type of birth control that doesn't agree with your body. Or it could be too low/high levels of hormones.

  • I'm wondering if it isn't the hormon levels.  I phoned the doctor's office (who prescribed my the BCP) today to see if I could get in, but the nearest available date was March 19th.  I also tried phoning my local health center, and they were able to pencil me in for the 18th.  I just hope it doesn't last that long.

I'm on Yaz, one of the side effects it has is "intermenstrual bleeding,"  can someone explain that to me?

  • I had the exact same problem on Yaz, except my period lasted five weeks until I was finally fed up enough to call my Doctor (I was used to this from before I started BC pills). Talk to your doctor about switching immediately, when I used a new pill it ended right away! It has to do with the hormones and how they react with your body, so it may take a few times to get the right pill.

    Good luck!
