Poll: How long away from DH?

What's the longest time you've spent away from DH since you've been married?

Brock is out of town for work for a week and its the longest time we've spent away from each other since we've been married.  It sucks....

Re: Poll: How long away from DH?

  • With Kevin's last job the longest he was gone for a week and it was hard but honestly I got so use to it that when he got laid off I missed my quiet house LOL
  • Last year, DH went to CA to visit his family for a week.  And I went to NC to visit some family for a week this year.  So, a week for each of us.  It was kind of hard, but also kind of nice to just be by myself for a little. :-)

  • The longest for us was a week. When TJ won the expenses paid trip to vegas with his pool team for a big tournament. I didn't have enough notice to get off work and we would have had to pay for me. Longest.week.ever.

  • 4 days when I drove back to IL by myself. Even though I went to see family and friends I hadn't seen for over a year, it wasn't enough of a distraction. I missed him terribly.

    I don't know what I'd do for a week.

  • Not for more than one day/night. We're co-dependent, apparently.Wink
  • Just overnight for us and i thought that was hard, i can't imagine a whole week
  • Steve went away for 2 weeks in December and that was the longest we've been apart.....ever....I was not a fan. I'm very thankful that none of my jobs have ever made me travel and that should be the longest work related trip he'll take...well, for now anyway who knows what the future holds.
  • yep a week here for us  too.. it was so loneeelllyyy!
  • We spent 8 days apart when I had to travel for work.  It was only supposed to be 5, and it was awful!

  • A week after our wedding in Japan.  He had to come back for work and I couldn't leave Japan yet because my papers weren't ready.  I was with my family back at home so I was better, but he had it hard since he was home by himself, sick, and jetlagged.  It's always hard to be away. I hate it!
  • I think 3 nights?  I was OOT for work.  I went to Cihcago this past weekend without him, but that was just one night.

Then again, we work opposite schedules, so we're both really independent in that way.  I miss him, but I'm (eta: NOT) used to having dinner with him, seeing him all the time, etc.  There can be up to three days where the only time we spend together is from 12 am-6 am.  I'll be asleep before he gets home and he'll be asleep when I wake up.  So, aside from sleeping next to each other, there's not a whole lot of difference.

i haaated this! TJ and I were like that for a few years. If we ever had to go back to that, I don't know how I'd do it.

  • I'm in the minority here b/c DH is in the military. Longest time apart since we were married was 6 weeks with one weekend visit in the middle (done this twice since married). Longest time ever was a little over 4 months when he was deployed. Yes, it sucked.

  • haha...I was like who's Karebear? lol oh well.

Right now, it's been 3 weeks. Eric was shifted to work in the TX office during this past December, I would have flown out to see him, but tickets were too costly for the company to pay. I would have totally met Christina & little Loela, damn $$$$ plane tickets.

Currently, Eric is out of town and in Sacramento - and it's been the 3rd week. He did come home this past weekend, but he's hoping to come home a day early by Thursday.

It's been hard sleeping without him, not seeing him, waking up and he's not there...I've been miserable mainly at night and in the morning. He really does keep the bed warm, gives the best goodnight kisses. I try and stay busy after work, clean, bake, and go to the gym. Yesterday, I went shopping, baked muffins for the office, organized my recipe folders, and watched my girl shows. It's a break for me in the kitchen, but then I use the time to experiment and make new recipes. My work gets to be the taste-testers for me. lol

  • well I might be the winner.... DH and I worked in different areas -- me in Chattanooga and DH in Greenville,SC for over a year! We saw each other about every other weekend but never for more than 3 days at a time.... talk about being crappy! BUT we are together now and that's all that matters!

  • Since we've been married, a few days. There is good and bad to it.  I love sleeping in the middle of the bed, but I also miss sharing the bed with him.  I hope Brock will be back soon!

ETA: We've gone longer.  When we were dating, he did study abroad in Japan for a year.  I saw him twice in that span.  When we were living together we did some holidays/weekends apart more often, but I think we split Christmas up.

  • I think 5 days is the longest we have been apart.  The first 2 days are nice...by day 4 it's awful.

  • I think 4 days/nights is the longest.  I've gone to my mom's a couple times without him (she only lives 3 hours away) and last summer I flew to NC to spend a long weekend with my sister.  My dog has a harder time than DH.  DH just plays video games the whole time I'm gone. After I went to NC, Jay told me that I have to take the dog with me next time because he was just too sad and it broke his heart.
  • Steve had to go to California for a week the June after we were married to help with his Grandma's estate.  It was awful!
  • 1 week it was the longest week ever!

  • I think 17 days when he was in Germany last year for work. I try to make the best of it, and that was helpful because I went over at the end. It is nice to have his plane ticket paid for.

He travels a lot, I don't love it, but it is what it is so I try to make the best of it. Luckily, no work trips for 2 months unless we both go to Hawaii in a few weeks (him working, me drinking on the beach).  His travel does have its perks!

  • 5 days is the longest we have ever been apart. He traveled to 2 different places to see his favorite band Phish this past summer. From Delaware to Upstate NY back down to Washington DC then back to Delaware. While I talked to him several times a day and I had Chase to keep my mind occupied, its still not the same. I missed him really bad. We both still get like that if he goes out with his friends and stays with them over night. He used to sleep off the beer for a while then drive home in the middle of the night (they all live about an hour away from us) until all the screaming I did about him driving home in a possilbly comprimised state in the middle of the night. Now he comes home all kinds of early in the morning. Which I like even thought its just to sleep.
