Stupid travel question...

A friend of mine is getting married in the summer.  She just sent me a message saying that she wished I was in Nova Scotia with her because she can't find a dress and she hates shopping because the only person who has ever helped her pick out good clothes is me.   I was thinking that maybe I would surprise her and cash in my Airmiles and fly out there for a weekend. I would have to take DD with me.  Does DD need her own ticket?  Do they cost the same as adult tickets?

Re: Stupid travel question...

  • If she sits on your lap then she doesn't need a ticket. If you want her to have her own seat then she needs a ticket and it costs the same as any other seat.

Edit - you still have to tell them that you are bringing her you just don't pay for her if she is on your lap.

  • Interesting.  The flight is only an hour and a half.  I could hold DD that long.

  • She is free as long as she is on your lap until she is two,

Also,  compare how many points it would be for air miles vs paying for a ticket.  Often they rip you off with high point values.  Check porter airlines since the flights are pretty cheap from ottawa to halifax.  I saw a flight for $99.00.

  • You don't need a ticket for them until they're over 2 so you're good!
  • I second the recommendation for Porter.

They're an awesome airline and you might get a cheaper flight than the cost of cashing in the airmiles.

  • I just used airmiles (through air canada) for our family vacation to Mexico - Noah was a full ticket bc he has a seat. for Jeremy, we had the option to use points, or pay $50 - even though he is sitting on my lap. Could be bc its to Mexico, and not within Canada... but I just wanted to note, that its not 100% free in my experience.

I wonder if the Mexican airport charges something similar to "port charges" when you are on a cruise?  My guess it is something to do with Mexico.

  • It is taxes. If you fly anywhere international with a baby you have to pay the taxes for them regardless if they are on your lap or not. If you fly within Canada it is totally free.
