BR-Baby slings to get warning after deaths

First thing I thought of when I saw this on MSNBC were all the beautiful babies and all the loving mamas on this board.

  • Thanks for posting... hadn't seen it.  But I do have one of those slings, so I'm glad I now know!

  • Very scary, I read that earlier. I went to a babywearing class at the Breastfeeding Center in DC and they warned everyone specifically about making sure the baby's chin is not squished so that they can breathe. I was constantly checking Alexa when I had her in the Hotsling as a newborn. I think it's a good reminder to moms to be extra careful.

  • Eek. Thanks for the PSA. *goes to registry to remove sling* (I think I'll just stick to the upright carriers)

  • wow, that is scary... the video manual for my sling warns repeatedly to make sure the baby doesn't have its chin to its chest, but it never said why... i thought it was more of a comfort thing, not a safety concern! i'm glad i know! thanks for sharing.
  • Like Malia, I went to a baby wearing class and the instructor didn't recommend anything but belly to belly with infants.  It is very scary!!
  • Scary!  I knew about the chin to chest thing...it can also happen in swings, car seats and bouncy chairs...so it's important to check those as well with infants.

Slings don't fit my body properly (boobs are too big) so I am all about the wrap carriers and eventually hope to try a soft-sided structured one like Ergo.

me too!  Jack is so big that he fits in my sling in a way that is face is always out so I use it but obviously observe caution - also my sling is quite fitted - not that poufy purse looking thing they keep showing on the news story.  (thanks crazy lady at target that stopped me last night to tell me I was putting him at risk!!  grrrr)
