We are hoping to go in October, either the first 2 weeks in October or the last week in September etc. My friend is getting married Oct 17th so we would have to be back for that. A friend of mine is moving to Germany in July, so we are thinking about staying with them (flying into Frankfurt) and then driving to other cities like Paris and Amsterdam. She said Paris is a 5 hour drive from her house. Germany has a ton of gorgeous castles and I just want to drive and stop along the way...take a ton of pictures...just really see the country. It would be nice to go to Italy for a bit too (fly of course). We haven't really talked "details" we just know we want to go....this year....and do something special for our 1 year so that would be nice.
Kristina you will love Germany! I spent a summer there when I was 16 and lived with my sister and her husband. We took a train to Paris for a four day weekend (so much easier than driving and it took 4 hours maybe?) We also camped in Brugge, Brelgium (fantastic city....you'll see little old ladies on the steps of their house making lace by hand! Their fingers work so fast...I bought my mom a nice table runner from there.) One weekend we traveled the Romantic Road in Germany (lots of old castles and small little towns). I can't for the life of me remember the name of the really old town that had the orginal wall built around it, but anyway it had a lot of little fun shops. Oh! You have to go to a disco when you are there....talk about a hoot (don't forget your glow sticks!)
Really, you are just hours away from a lot of great cities! Have fun planning!
Thank you so much for all of the great info! I totally didn't even think about taking a train! That will def. be an option! And I need to find these little old ladies that make lace, that sounds amazing! And would be cool to photograph! It's really called the Romantic Road??? Ok now I'm getting excited....I will have to pick your brain for ideas when we start to plan!
And note to self...must go to disco...check!
