Help Me Style This Please!

Hi All,

As I mentioned in Mamie's "it's Friday!" post, I'm off to a bridal shower this weekend.

This is the dress I bought for the brunch on Sunday.

Women's Sandra Darren Ruched Waist Dress-Black/Brown/Ivory Print

It's at the bride's family home (sister is MOH) at 11:30 a.m. The colors for the event are green, light blue, and brown. Very earthy and elegant. It's kinda hard to see in the picture, but the dress is lots of mixed neutrals -- black (dominant color), white, gray, taupe, ivory, and brown.

I am trying to figure out the following:

(1) Is this an okay brunch/bridal shower dress?

(2) Would it look okay with black tights? Or another color? And if so, what shoes?

(3) It's supposed to be in the 60s, but it is indoors...should I still pair it with some kind of jacket or sweater? What color? Does that change the tights answer?

(4) Accessories?

Help me please.

  • Oh also -- if it's not good, I will go shopping again today. I just need some ideas/stores/etc.

  • 1. I think it's perfect for a bridal brunch.

    2. No tights. Granted, I'm not a tights person, but the dark trim on the bottom of the dress is asking for a light contrast, so I'd go bare legged or nude/tan hose if you must. Black shoes. Flats would be cute and brunch appropriate.

    3. Accessories--chunky bracelet and earring, no necklace needed since the neckline is already interesting.

    4.  If you need a sweater, definitely wear one :) Black would be good or one of the other darker colors in it (sorry, can't see it right now while replying).

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Ditto Leigha.

I'd skip the tights, go barelegged, and bring a cardi.

  • Ditto to their posts. That is a very cute dress.

  • Is the shower in San Diego? If so, you have many options since it's so warm.

    1. Yes, definitely

    2. I wouldn't wear tights, too wintery. It's hardly winter time here in San Diego. I'd go with bare legs with either a) strappy gold shoes or b) brown or nude pumps (peep-toe or closed toe, either would look great).

    3. I'd wear some sort of cardigan, jacket, pashmina, etc. You could do just about anything here, since you probably won't be wearing it more than to/from the car.

    4. I'd probably wear gold accessories with this. Simple earrings, simple necklace, and maybe a simple bangle bracelet. The print is loud enough that you don't want to add too much more to it.
