did you plant seeds this year in your greenhouse?

Re: buckin

  • My greenhouse never got built...*sigh*

We did plant seeds in those little pod container things you can get at Lowe's though and put them in the window sills of the front bedroom that gets a lot of sun and really hot. WE already have sprouts after only three days! I couldn't beleive it.

We are planting more this weekend to go under the grow lights. My dad planted about 800 plants in his greenhouse and we will direct seed quite a bit as well in the big garden.

  • oh no!!  what happened?!?!

i have some under grow lights and i successfully killed my broccoli already.  the broccoli sprouted after 3 days but nothing else had, so i had to keep the covers on.  too much humidity i guess.  apparently i'm buying plants this year (and SOON!).

that's crazy, 800 plants!  i can't wait to hear how things go for you.

  • Yea, my broccoli and Brussel sprouts are what have come up so far. (You inspired me to try broccoli). I also got brave and am trying artichokes!

    Our Greenhouse:

    1) Dad took a job that kept him working 80 hours a week for several months so my Greenhouse got backlisted.

    2) We have hit several money problems with medical bills (miscarriage, allergy attack, DEDUCTIBLES=insanity)

    3) We owe a crap load of taxes this year

    4) We need a new roof.

It's not been pleasant around my house with money issues lately.

I'm hoping having the big garden (3/4 of an acre traditional row garden where our pasture was since we sold our horses) plus the box garden will help us trim the food budget a lot over the next year.

One of these days, that sucker will get built. Maybe.

What all are you doing this year? When are you going to start to plant? We got the big garden cut, but we don't have either ready to plant and I'm itching to but between rain/sickness/ and time we just haven't been able to pull it off yet. Doesn't bode well does it?

  • yay for broccoli, boo for financial issues :(  side note... have you had any hail damage in the past year or so that you could possibly get your roof paid for under insurance?  we did this last year... $500 was way better than $4200!

i hope things start turning around for you guys soon!

i'm doing squash, zucchini, cukes, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, onions and our strawberries/blueberries are existing.  broccoli and onions need to get in ASAP, especially now that we're pretty much done (er, hopefully) with the hard frosts.  i'm crossing my fingers for a good year since it will most likely be my last garden here!

Well, that's part of the problem. There was some major screw up at Nationwide and somehow they had DROPPED our HomeOwner's because of a computer error...they kept giving us the run around about fixing it and blaming computers etc. so we ended up switching to Farm Bureau and now we can't claim the damage...literally the week before the wind blew half our roof off, we had the insurance malfunction so neither company will cover it.

and WAIT...what do you mean your last garden here?? Are you moving!!??
