Round 3.

My LR furniture is a sandy beige sofa and a mocha loveseat and recliner. The wall is a dark greige color. What accent colors would complement the furniture and walls? We will need curtains, area rug, and accent pillows.
I dislike red; DH dislikes greens. Blue is out.
I was thinking yellow/golds or plums (you may remember this idea from the last time I asked).

I love the plum idea... which you may remember from the last time you asked
I could also see just doing shades of ivory/white in different textures. I'm big on neutrals and I think it would look great to do a textured rug, lots of pillows and throws in different colors and then work in some metal accent peices in silver. Then just add in some real plants to liven it up a little.

It's so hard to find a cute and affordable plum area rug!! But I'm kind of afraid to do an ivory because of it getting dirty too quickly. I've never lived in a house with hardwoods, so this will take getting used to!
The seller is leaving us the curtains, so it will be white for now until/if we change it. I'm just nervous to have white curtains right up to our sandy beige sofa. I need to stop worrying about mixed neutrals, don't I?
Throw pillows are easy enough (if you can't find them, you can also have a crafty friend sew some), but it's the area rug that's tripping me up.

Yet I don't want beige curtains either.
My trim is white. Haha. I hate making these decisions!

YoungHouseLove mixes up the whites and ivories, which makes me think it could be okay

The second one is only 200 for the 5x7
Honestly, rugs are ridic. I haven't bought one since the one that came with my living room set at rooms to go. DH and I are those kind who WILL go buy one from the guy set up at a corner store. Have you looked into carpet squares? That's what we were going to do when we thought we were renting a house with all hardwoods.
ETA: 15 of these would give you 5x8 for about $100

I have briefly seen that site!
What size do you think the sellers rug is? The room is 19X13. How big should I go?
Lucy Elizabeth 10.27.12
It all depends on how you set up your furniture honestly. You use the rug to anchor the couches/chairs/tables together, so it depends on how you want to set it up. My rug is the traditional 5x7.5 and it does well with our overstuffed couch and chaise. I think it's pretty standard size, or 8x10. Cool thing about the squares is that they're like an expandable dining room table
You can buy some now and more later! lol
Oh, and the seller's looks like it might be 10x10 or 12x12. (I love that I can see her pictures while at work!). But you don't need the rug to extend under every piece of furniture like she does. We have ours set up so that the rug goes up to the furniture and is weighed down by the coffee table, but the couch and chaise aren't on it.

I hate how expensive area rugs are... which is why we bought a carpet remnant from Lowe's and got it banded around the edge... for a 7x9 rug it was $50. Its nothing special but it's beige, goes with our furniture, warms up our hardwood floors a bit and I dont freak out if the dog pukes on it.
I love that YHL room btw.

Another option is to go to a flooring store and have carpet that would be installed wall to wall, cut down and edged into an area rug. You would give them the dimensions and they cut it to size.
This is what we plan on doing, but I don't have pricing yet. You would also need a carpet pad, but most area rugs need those too.
Isn't it nuts how much they are!? Ugh, idk what to do.
Lucy Elizabeth 10.27.12
I'm glad it was so cheap!
If you go the direct route and shop places like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, etc, you'll have a harder time finding the "perfect" rug for a good price. If you feel like you've looked everywhere and just can't find something you like, then it's time to think outside the box and get creative. I'd recommend you start looking at local carpet stores....like stores that carpet your house. You can get a scrap (or sometimesjust get a piece cut in the dimensions that you want) for a great price. I also like this option because usually you end up with a solid color instead of a print. I feel like prints feel dated too soon or I don't like the direction that they take my decor. I don't get that with solid colors.

How do we feel about this?

Mamie your comment above made me wonder if you know about the little pad things you attach to the bottoms/legs of your furniture so you don't scratch up your floors. They are usually sticky or on tacks and you can buy various sizes or cut them to fit bigger items like a couch.

Monochromatic, yes. But when I get sick of an accent color it's easy switch to get new pillows, right?
Dark walls, medium dark hardwoods, mix of light and dark furniture, light curtains, light rug?

Do I need them under every piece of furniture?
Lucy Elizabeth 10.27.12
Yes you do. It's amazing the damage furniture can do. I lost 1 pad and I pushed the couch and it left a nice long mark...argh!
