Food questions

The pickle juice got me thinking...some of us (obviously, the normal ones Stick out tongue) consume pickle juice, others don't.  This makes me wonder what else people do, don't do, or think is weird.  With that, here are some questions.

  1. Do you drink pickle juice?
  2. Do you cook with pickle juice?
  3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd?
  4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?
  5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share?
Matt loves Munkii!!!

Re: Food questions

  • I'll go first.

    1. Do you drink pickle juice?  YES!
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice?  Yes, sweet gerkin juice is a main ingredient in the next topic.
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd?  Yes.  Potato Salad.  Ours is made with mashed potatoes though.  We also prefer mashed potato cakes.
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog? Ketchup.
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share?  Not yet.

    1. Do you drink pickle juice? UM yes...
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice? I can make a mean potato salad with pickle juice and chopped pickles...dill...not sweet...I can't stand sweet pickles...
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? No, but we have a recipe called Schman...it's german....really flat pancake, almost like a funnel cake...but better...
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?  I get annoyed when people call you out on what you put on your hot dog....it's a hot dog!  I like a little bit of everything or just plain mustard and ketchup....
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? Really salty mashed potatoes, dipping my grilled cheese sandwich in mashed potatoes....oh and I also eat pickles on my grilled cheese...issues...
  • Do you drink pickle juice?  def. not, and I am very southern...I musta missed this geneDo you cook with pickle juice? No, what the heck recipes call for pickle juice?!Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd?  I dont think so...What do you think should never be put on a hot dog? pickle juice?!Are there other food oddities you'd like to share?  I love sliced tomato, covered in a layer of mayo and salt and pepper. 1. Do you drink pickle juice? I have.  I don't make a habit of it, though.

    2. Do you cook with pickle juice? I'm open to the idea, but I haven't as of yet.

    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? No, the opposite.  We have family recipes that sound strange (such as "Goop," which is on the FB Cookbook) but are actually quite good.

    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?  Chocolate, any jelly or preserve, and I'll throw in peanut butter for good measure.

    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? I'm a huge fan of liverwurst in general.  I love Liverwurst/Dill pickle sandwiches!   When i worked at Starbucks, their strawberry n' creme frappucino with an espresso shot mixed in was also FABULOUS.

What?!  That's crazy good.  People are nuts!  My favorite is just tomato and salt, but I won't deny the mayo--especially on a tomato sandwich.

    Agreed!

    1. Do you drink pickle juice?
      No.
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice?
      No.
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? Hmm...Pets de Soeur, which translates to Nuns Farts, is a dessert from Quebec that's recipe varies by family. Ours involves pie crust with butter and brown sugar rolled up then cut into little circles, baked with maple syrup (the real stuff) on top. It is so yummy!
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?
Maple syrup...or anything sweet. I like mine with just ketchup!
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share?
Um...I think we are pretty dull. Except that my dad eats his Shepard's Pie with A-1 sauce. He mixes it up, smooshes it flat on his plate, then puts A-1 sauce on top. It used to make me gag when I was a kid! To this day, I cannot eat A-1 and use ketchup with my steak.
    1. Do you drink pickle juice? Nope, can't say I have.
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice? Not yet.
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? I don't think so. We pretty much call things what they are. OH but my Dad's family fries weeds. It's a specific KIND of weed, that grows along the highway in PA. I've only tried them once. Didn't really do it for me. Apparently my grandfather (who I never met) did it a lot when my Dad was a kid.
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?  I don't know, soy sauce?
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? I guess it's not THAT odd but it's new to me - I love love love love eggs and salsa. Yum. OH and DH puts that hot sause on everything. Literally everything. Sriracha? I think is how you spell it.

    1. Do you drink pickle juice?  Nope but DH does
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice?  No, I didn't know people do. lol.
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? Not really.  We make frito pie which isn't common in this area so most people don't know what it is and are surprised at what it looks like.
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?  Relish, or mayo
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? I think a lot of people do this but I love ranch dressing with pizza.  I also like plain noodles with seasoned salt on them.

    1. Do you drink pickle juice?  Ew, No...but I will eat a jar in 1 sitting
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice? Nope
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? Mexican Chicken
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?  Yes
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? Okra

    1. Do you drink pickle juice? Nope - but I have.  Mostly as a child.  Not lately by anymeans.
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice?  Can't say that I have.
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? ummm, not that I can think of right now.
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog?  The "coney sauce" at the place we stopped at for Hotdogs last weekend.  I asked what was in it and the lady replied, and I quote. "oh, some ground beef and lots and lots and lots of lard."  Needless to say, I skipped that and went for mustard, ketchup, and onions instead.  :)

Are there other food oddities you'd like to share?  Try peanut butter and bacon sandwiches (if meat is your thing of course).  They're lovely. I like them just like that but my mom swears by putting mayo on it too.  I've never gone that crazy.  *wink*  I also occasionally enjoy spaghetti-os but I can't stand them warm.  If I could eat them cold straight up, I'd love it but people think that is strange so I grudgingly heat them for about a minute.

    1. Do you drink pickle juice?  Negative
    2. Do you cook with pickle juice?  I put some juice in my deviled eggs. Yum!
    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? Nope, I don't think so.
    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog? I like my hot dogs naked; no ketchup, no way will mustard ever touch my dog, and relish is gross :)
    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share?  I only eat the ends off of tater tots and I love to mix my corn into my mashed potatoes.

Just makes you part of the 'creative" crew.  :)

  • 1. Do you drink pickle juice? Ew, no.

    2. Do you cook with pickle juice? Again, ew.

    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? Hmm, I don't think so.  The only "family recipe" I can think of are Polish Easter doughnuts with prune centers called ponczkys, which have both a weird name and weird presentation.

    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog? I like my hot dogs really plain, so anything but ketchup and especially not relish.

    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? Some people think it's weird that most of my food preferences are related to texture.  I don't like anything you can't chew, like soup.

  • 1. Do you drink pickle juice? Gross!  No!

    2. Do you cook with pickle juice? I could see that possibly working in some recipes, but I've never thought to try it.

    3. Is there a recipe in your family that has a regular sounding name but when served, people think is odd? No but I cook alot of grains that people aren't used to and think that's odd.

    4. What do you think should never be put on a hot dog? Growing up, my brother way known to put EVERYTHING at the BBQ on his hotdogs... grapes, chips, guacamole, etc... so nothing is really strange to me.  If I eat a hot dog, I'm happy with some brown mustard and/or BBQ sauce and that's it.

    5. Are there other food oddities you'd like to share? I am VERY picky about the texture of my peanut butter.  Smile

  • P.S.  I love tomato sandwiches and tomato slices with salt and pepper.   ESPECIALLY when the tomato was just picked from the garden!!

Ooh, yes! There is nothing like a fresh tomato sandwich. I like my bread toasted with a little butter, loaded with tomato slices, and salt and pepper!
