Vent - Long

So, today was a really great day. My students were all very well behaved and it's the start of Spring Break. Fast forward to when I get home.

There's a note on our door from the office. (We live in apt.) It said basically that we were in violation of our lease because we put trash into the recycling bin after being asked my an apt employee not to do that. I was very upset because that didn't happen. When I asked the ladies in the office they said that the maintenance guy specifically said that it did happen. He saw me putting trash into the recycling bin, told me not to and I ignored him. When I told them that didn't happen, they said that 1. the guy doesn't speak much English and 2. he saw me from his car, yelled at me and I ignored him. 3. They KNOW it's me because he dug through it and found my name on something.

I understand that I may have mixed up the bags and put the trash in the recycling and vice versa. My bad. Also, the ladies in the office were very nice about it. But here's why I'm mad. 1. I have valet trash pick up. Why would I take the time to walk it to the bins if it was just trash.

2. Of course I'm going to ignore a man yelling at me from his car! (However, I didn't hear anything.)

3. Even though there was nothing important in there and I knew it could happen, I HATE that someone was going through our trash/recycling.

Ugh, it just totally ruined my day. Thanks for letting me vent.

Tell them they need photographic proof if they try to fine you. Our friends lived in a townhouse and the neighbor reported them over and over saying their dog pooped in her yard. They finally videotaped another neighbors dog pooping in the yard. Done and done.

some dude yelling at you from his car (and from what you say, probably not in english) does not constitute a formal request, imo. that's stupid.

I hate apartments for this reason. Some random person (or maintenance person) can see someone do something then just randomly makeup a person they think it is. I agree that if they try to fine you then ask for photographic evidence because it's BS. We had someone try and turn us in because supposedly a "dog walker" (not someone who even lives in our complex, someone that just walks several people's dogs) supposedly saw DH outside with our dogs off leashes and the apt tried to fine us. My dogs are both rescues and both were found roaming the streets. If I let them off the leash, they will run off. They will not stay in one place, go pee, and then come back to me. The apt basically tried to call me a liar. I asked if they were really going to believe someone who does not even PAY them and if they were, we would be moving out and I would absolutely not pay the fine unless they could prove that to me. A couple hours later the apt manager called back and apologized and told me the note was just a "warning" and a "reminder" to keep our dogs on leashes and we didn't owe a fine.

So they are trying to bust you for putting recycleable paper in the recycling bin? Sounds like you rent from some really smart people (<---sarcasm).
