For this weekend's party, I wanted to get a few bottles of wine. (Most people we know will drink beer or soda, but I wanted to have some wine to offer as well.)
I currently have some Pinot Noir and (dry) Riesling. I was wondering if I should get something else - maybe some Cabernet Sauvignon and some Chardonnay (for a drier white or should I go a sweeter wine for an option)? I bought the Pinot Noir when we had company, but I was the only one who drank any; it's not exactly a red I'd sit and drink for the fun of it - it worked well when paired with the beef wellington, but on it's own? Was a bit tougher to drink, hence the Cabernet Sauvignon thought.
Thoughts? WWYD?
Re: Wine Drinkers
Cabernet Sauvignon is a good one to have on hand...or Pinot Grigio. Both are very versitile.
My thoughts are that when I go to someone's house and I want to have a specific wine I bring a bottle along. Otherwise I'm happy to drink whatever the host/hostess provides. So don't think too much into it and buy whatever you will drink it it's leftover.
This. I'd get the cab. sav. just so you have a red on hand that you know you like and will drink when everyone's gone (if you actually will)...otherwise, serve what you want. I've been buying only white wines lately b/c red gives me a migraine...I figure that if someone's going to complain about my wine choice, they can suck it.

Ditto all of this.
I normally avoid reds because I'd never found one I cared to drink. Until our new neighbor brought me some this weekend... twice.
If you can find this at a store near you I suggest trying it if you want to try different reds:
I wasn't a huge fan of reds until we had this...and now I love it!
