What brought you to Upstate?

Just curious how you ended up UNY.. did you grow up here? Go to school here? Move here to be with DH?

I am from LI, met my DH at school in Arizona, and moved to Albany to be with him. The cost of living is so high on LI and he didn't want to move there.

I was born and raised here, moved south for 3 years, came back to finish school, had plans to move back south but met DH, so here I stay.....for now, lol.

Born and raised here.. not particularly fond of it as I am sun/oceanhot weather girl and woudl love to live in FL, but I am not one to venture out of the comfort zone and my family is here although my parents do live PT in FL and I will be headed down to see them in a couple weeks.

DW was offered a full ride in a PhD program. We couldn't pass that up so I bought some warm clothes and we left CA.

Born and raised here too! Grew up in Rochester area. Lived in Syracuse area for 9 years and moved back to Rochester area about 9 years ago. Can't think of anywhere else I'd rather live!

Born and raised in Rochester, my parents are from Niagara Falls, so I spent a lot of time in NF/Buffalo as kid. Went to college in Boston and moved back here after. DH is from here too, and Rochester will always be "home" for us!

I was born and raised here. I moved to Jacksonville, FL for two years for a teaching job, but was so homesick the second year I lived there. I did love the lack of snow, but really missed Fall and Spring. Summer was WAY TOO HOT!

Born and raised in Binghamton and Texas (but Bing was always home)- met DH while he was working for IBM- He moved to albany (where he was raised) for a job and I followed to finish my degree...

I want to move but now that we have L and family is so close- I doubt we'll go too far...

I (and DH) was born and raised in the Binghamton area. I think we missed our window of opportunity to move anywhere. I was always in school, DH got a good job here and all of our family is here. Barring any major job changes, we'll be here forever.

I'm from CT, but after graduation from college moved to a tiny little farm town in Columbia County since my best friend was there and I had established a lot of friendships through her. I was in Columbia County and Litchfield County CT for about 9 years when I met DH. He lived in Albany so I moved here. We would LOVE to get out of upstate NY. We are planning on moving to the Raleigh,NC area (we love it there) at some point. We tried two years ago but the current housing market wasn't of any help. We'll try again in a few years.

I was born, raised and went to college in Rochester. DH was born and raised in Buffalo and went to my college. We relocated due to jobs down to Corning, but it's still all the upstate/Western NY region as far as I am concerned.

I run Boston blood...from the suburbs of boston, but when DH graduated wth his masters, we decided to take the oppertunity to look around...I was enamored with syracuse at first glance, but the closer i look, i'm still not thrilled with the area...I miss Boston. I miss friends and family being close...I don't have alot of friends here (just nesties) and our families are hours away. But I do like owning a house, and I'm happy with COL being SUBSTANTIALLY lower than MA, and DH and I are making more money than we did when we lived in MA, but if the oppertunity arose, we'd leave.

DH and I were both born and raised in Syracuse. We have good jobs here and have promised to take care of his brother (who has schizophrenia) when his parents die so we don't plan on leaving. I love that we can live so comfortably here.

Born & Raised here, moved to Philly for school, then the Outer Banks for work after school, but needed some surgery that my doctor back home was more familiar with than my Dr. down there, so I came back "temporarily" - 13 years ago. That's when I met HT, got a job that didn't involve living outside year-round, and I'll most likely never leave with Cletus on the way; also since HT isn't one for change and the prospect of moving away is enough to cause him to freak out (he turned down a HUGE promotion b/c it involved moving.)

We relocated for DH's job. We're both from OH, but I spent 10 years overseas, and the rest of the time all over OH, and until we came here last summer, DH had never lived anywhere but NWOH. We love it, except for being away from our friends and family (though I LOVE being away from the ILs....)

I am born and rasied here. Went to college in South Carolina for about a year, got homesick because I have two young sisters that I wanted to see grow up and missed so much (they were around 6 months and 2 years old at the time), and I lost some financial aid for school so I moved back to Albany and finished school here. Then I met my DH who is also from the area. I have toyed with the idea of moving south again, because I really loved the Charleston area, but it just never worked out. Now that the little one is on the way, I'm sure both our parents would kill us if we wanted to move away now! We would only move if it meant a major job promotion for my DH.
