water vent

So I know no one selling a home is going to tell you outright, "If it rains, you're friggin screwed." but saying "We had a little water once" is a complete lie. I can picture the previous owner sitting nice and dry in their new abode. If I knew where it was, I would re-direct my water there.

Our neighbors *swear* they've never seen water like this in the neighborhood and yet it's happened twice in two weeks!

Needless to say, the sandy shores of our new lake will be opening this Memorial Day weekend.

Re: water vent

  • ha ha ha...you know what though...we bought our house five years ago, and have NEVER had more than a trickle of water in the basement.  We woke up this morning to two inches covering the entire floor.  We were both totally shocked.  H is out getting a pump right now.
  • Yeah - unfortunately we didn't notice when looking at the place that everything in the basement is on cinder blocks. So we're partially to blame here. I just feel better blaming the old owners and not our ignorant house-hunting bliss.

  • ha ha ha I know what you mean.  We blamed our previous owners for the carpenter ants we had....and the home inspector.  We thought he should have picked up on that problem for sure.

Ugh.  If everything was on cinderblocks then they've totally had water before.  That sucks.  We got water in our basement too.  We didn't expect it at all, since we are on a hill and figured nothing would sit in the soil long enough to penetrate.  This storm has just been really bad.

  • I hear you on this!  We even looked at our house when it had been raining for days last year and not a drop of water. The sump pump wasn't even on...as the house was a foreclosure. We have a ton of water in our basement and I had to leave work early to vacuum up the water that is on the other side of the basement (not where the pump is) :-/
