DH has landed himself in Fayetteville,NC for the time being (if we end up in Wilmington/Camp Lejeune it won't be until sometime next year), so I'm planning on visiting him next month. I'm flying into (and we're staying in) Raleigh. I'm not sure how many times I'll be going out there to see him vs him coming home, but I know for sure I'll be headed that way next month.
My question for you: Any suggestions on what area to stay in and must do adventures while we're there? My visit will only be Friday night through Monday morning, if that matters.
Thanks!
Re: **Kellybeth**
Public transportation is not great outside of the downtown area. Once you get to downtown you can park but if you want to venture outside of there you'll need a car.
I'd recommend the Sheraton or Marriott downtown and you can use the R-line (http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/get-around/r-line) to hop around from the Capitol, the museums, and between Glenwood Ave and Fayetteville St. where a lot of the good bars and restaurants are.
Some ideas in/around downtown (no particular order):

The Farmers Market is fun to wander around in and the restaurant there is pretty good, especially for a lazy Saturday morning breakfast.

Thanks! I'm a little confused about the transportation issues that you posed. So are you saying it's best to have our own vehicle, or to use public transportation downtown? Mike will be driving up from Fayetteville to meet me, so we'll have his truck.
Haha, sorry I just re-read that and it was a garbled mess. Based on your short time line, I would recommend focusing your explorations on downtown since you'll have a smaller area to cover and there is a lot to do there. Public transportation is available for free using the R-line so you don't have to worry about driving around.
That said, it's good that he's got his truck since the airport is a about 15 minutes from downtown and if you're hitting rush hour, plan on it taking 45 min at least. I-40 East gets snarled up pretty often around the airport.
