Hey, could I ask what cruise line you're catching out of Houston? DH and I don't have our summer trip planned yet and I'm always on the lookout for new ideas!

  • We're leaving out of Galveston and DH did a lot of research into.  We're going on Carnival, but it's our first cruise so we don't know what to expect.  Apparently Carnival leaves out of Galveston year round, while other cruise lines (RC and Norweigan and a few others) have ships there seasonally.  Most of the trips are Western Carribbean, but there's a few that head east and hit the Florida Keys before getting to the Bahamas and other places.

In short, I don't think the most glamorous cruise lines or itineraries depart out of Galveston, but the pros for us is that we can drive to the port and get a vacation for cheap without the flight.  Plus, with it being so close, you could keep your eyes peeled for a last minute fare and jump on a vacation for cheap.

  • I just checked again.  It's Carnival, Royal Carribbean, and Princess that I know leave out of Galveston.  There may be others, but Norweigan and Celebrity do not.

RC has a Western Carribbean 7 day cruise that hits Belize and Roatan Honduras that looks great.  I don't think there's a departure in June, though.

Thus the basis of its appeal!

Thanks for the info! I think if we ever do a cruise it has to be from Galveston so we don't have to waste money flying. Looks like we'd like the longer cruises though, so we might have to wait til we're out of the peak season to afford it. Maybe for my birthday in September...we'll just have to battle the hurricanes :)
