Chicago-ers... tinley park?

Hi all - has anyone ever been to an event at Tinley Park?  DH wants to see Brooks and Dunn one last time before they're no longer a duo and we can't make the tour date they're in our area because we'll be out of town for my sisters graduation from medical school (super proud of her!!).  The closest one to us we can actually make is at Tinley Park.  Looks like it is an outdoor ampitheater.  I'm thinking about buying the cheap seats on the lawn but I have no idea how far away that is from the stage and if we'll need binoculars to see the stage.

Re: Chicago-ers... tinley park?

  • I'll get back to you.  DH grew up next to Tinley, and he would know better than I!
  • I saw a show there a couple of summers ago.  I think it's a nice venue - pretty much like every other outdoor venue I've seen.  We had lawn seats and they were pretty standard.  Sorry I can't help, but if you're looking to go to the concert, why not?! :)

  • OK so stupid question - do we bring our own chairs for lawn seats?  :)

  • When we have lawn seats (at Tinley or elsewhere), we just bring a blanket (and layers, if necessary... it gets cold at night in the spring and fall).  The time we were at Tinley, however, a man in front of us was so drunk that he puked and passed out BEFORE the show even started!  Since we didn't want to sit in his puke (the lawn was pretty much filled at that point), we rented chairs.  They were just regular fold-up lawn chairs.  There's probably info on their website, but I think they were like $5 each.  It was definitely worth it later in the evening when someone behind us relieved himself during the show in the lawn.

So... I guess the moral is, know your audience. :)  But, either way, chairs should be available for rent if you don't bring them.

  • My husband says that when he went to a concert (10+ years ago) that they weren't allowed to bring lawn chairs into the park - if you have lawn seats, bring a blanket.  Reading Kellie's post makes me think the rules have changed if they're renting chairs.  He also said you don't need binoculars, but that you can bring them if you want.

Maybe bringing your own chairs wasn't a choice?  I guess I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't let you bring your own chairs... more people would be renting them then.

  • Found your answer... no chairs more than 9" off the ground.

  • cool - thanks for your help ladies!!  :)  Chicago - here we come!  Ok in August but eventually!
  • I'm going to a concert in Chicao in August too!  DH is a big Jimmy Buffett fan and we have friends in Chicago that we can stay with for the weekend.  I don't know if it's at Tinley or not, though.  We'll both have Chicago visits in August - what a coincidence! :)

Both of you let me know if you need recommendations for things to do/places to stay!  DH and I will also treat you and your DH to Starbucks!

  • Lol - I love Jimmy Buffet too!  :)  His songs make me giggle for the most part and Margaritaville is my Kareoke standby.
