What to do when it's too warm? I don't want to overheat her but she won't sleep if not swaddled. I just put her in her diaper in the swaddler but it still seems warm. It's 74 degrees in our room. Do I need to turn on the ac?
Re: BR: Too warm to swaddle
If it's 74 in your room, it's probably getting to the point where I'd want to turn on the A/C (I've read that the room should be in the 60s, but someone correct me if I'm wrong) or switch on a fan.
And this is probably an overly simple question, but what fabric is the swaddle that you're using? Is it light and cool like muslin or linen or something heavier?
Most books recommend 65-68 degrees for the room...so I would put on the AC. You can also just put her in a bodysuit (t-shirt onsie) and swaddle her with a lighter blanket too. But I'd still get the temp down to 68.
FWIW, we had a few days in the high 60's last week which made our home warmer so I just had Libby in her diaper/cover, t-shirt onsie and the Miracle Blanket or SwaddleMe (cotton jersey).
We're used to keeping our home around 68-70 for our pugs (temp sensitive) so we're already used to the heating/cooling bill related to doing that.

Turned on the A/C day and night... and yes our electric bill has double since we had Ashton.
Unfortunately, there's NO way we could get the temp below 70 for baby... even in my former office, we kept it at 72 and that was freezing for a lot of us.
We don't have A/C, so DH installed a ceiling fan in baby's room to help circulate the air and keep the temp cool. We also have two big windows and live in a valley, which should help.
I'm curious what other moms would do re: swaddling under these circumstances. I was planning to use large cotton swaddle blankets and the Miracle.... and maybe swaddle him/her wearing just a diaper?
I had Brooke in May so we were swaddling during summer. We had an AC, but never turned it on. However, if you feel it is too hot, I'd turn the AC on. We only swaddled at night and during the day she cruised around in a t-shirt and diapers (or just diapers)
I'd say just go with your gut-- if you feel that Kaya might be too hot in her swaddle, then turn the air on

ditto this. you definitely don't want kaya too warm b/c of the risk of SIDS but just check her occasionally and see how she feels. granted, miss A was born in the winter, but we did have some unseasonably warm weather a few days here and there and now it is really warming up too....but we never had the nursery under 70. it has always been between 70-74 to be honest w/you. i always check her after naps and if she is sweating (which she shouldn't be) then i turn on the a/c. it may depend on the baby too b/c i found during the winter that she would wake up prematurely b/c she was cold (i'd feel her ears) so we had to turn up the heat. we use a miracle blanket and a halo sleepsack swaddle and what i dress her in under that varies depending on the temp... sometimes just a tshirt or onesie, sometimes a footed sleeper. but even in winter we never really bundled her up under the swaddle (maybe that's why she got cold? LOL but i enjoyed the excuse to turn on the heat b/c i get cold easily too and DH doesn't). hope that helps some.
