...because I saw my doctor today and he prescribed some
hydrocortisone cream for my insanely itchy PUPPPs rash. It is beyond wonderful.
There's still some discomfort and a mild itchiness, but NOTHING like
what it was before. I can actually feel my sanity being restored.
I
know that a lot of women who have PUPPP try to avoid the steroid
creams, but they're stronger women than I am. I have tried the
natural remedies I've found online, but none of them have helped, not
even a tiny bit. And it's not like I'm going to be bathing in this stuff
for months on end - we're only talking a small topical amount for 3-4
weeks, and these kiddos are far enough along that they'll be just
fine...especially now that mommy isn't losing her mind anymore lol. ![]()
Re: BR: Angels are singing...
I'm so glad! You have my full sympathy. I remember when I got that cream for my lake disease. Amen! I read that it could thin skin or cause stretch marks... or scary hair patches. I was so desperate that I didn't care. I applied liberally and often. I only used it heavily for a week... but did not have any ill effects.
What's the worst that could happen?
Answer: you get full relief and the babies come out looking like burly pirates!
I hope you know I'm joking and realize that it is a different kind of steroid. I would not worry about any impact on the pirates. My friend took oral prednisone to HELP her babies. She had a problem where she kept having miscarriages. I couldn't believe the solution was an oral steroid... but, it was. She took it from the time her pregnancy was confirmed until the baby was delivered (twice). Now, her gorgeous Ken and Barbie kids are teenagers (I'm not sure if it was the steroids or the fact that the dad is from the Netherlands).

I'm not really worried - from what I've read, hydrocortisone is only an issue if you use it regularly during the first or second trimester, and the most common problem it causes is a cleft palate. Since we're past that point of development, there's not too much that can go wrong, at least as far as I know. I've read one or two places that it can contribute (sometimes) to premature labor, but they were talking about delivering at like 37 weeks vs 40 weeks, and there's a good chance I'll hit my limit before then anyway!
One of the women at the high risk clinic that I go to has to take some form of steroid; she's had a threatened miscarriage since something like 20 weeks (and is now at 34 weeks and on bedrest most of the time). They started giving her the steroid because apparently it can help the baby's lungs develop quickly, which comes in handy if the baby is born prematurely. I was surprised that they did that, but it seems that in some cases the benefits outweigh the risks!

woohoo! glad you found some relief. Your poor liver seems really stressed out about this pregnancy - I'm sure it will be just as relieved as you to have these babies!!
He'll let me go as far as 38 weeks, if I can make it to that point...but he doesn't think I will. Is it terrible that I'm REALLY hoping for 36 weeks? There's gonna be a lot of spicy food, sex and nipple stimulation when I hit 36w1d...
