BC Pill-Loestrin24Fe

I went to the doctors today and he changed my birth control because I was getting migraines on the pill I had been taking. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Loestrin 24Fe.

TIA

Re: BC Pill-Loestrin24Fe

  • I take the generic form and really like it. My sex drive really improved when I switched to this. I have experienced short bouts of nausea on a rare occasion from it, but nothing bad at all.

  • That one has iron in it, right?  Are you sure you can safely supplement with iron?  I didn't find out until I was 29 that taking supplements with iron is harmful to me, and I now have a spleen condition as a result - not to cause alarm but maybe just ask your doctor to be sure that all the necessary tests have been done to rule out any possible problems with iron supplementation?   (It turns out I have a form of anemia that makes iron supplements dangerous.)
  • I am taking Loestrin24fe after switching from being on Yaz for 2 years...overall it is a wonderful pill. I would say that my sex drive is still extremely low, but if you are going to take a BC pill, this is probably one of the better ones with lower side effects. The iron is actually really good for most women who may be slightly deficient. Good luck!
  • Unfortunately, I had a terrible experience with this pill.  I was having a week-long period every two weeks (that's right - one week on, one week off), was super emotional, and my sex drive was next to nothing.  The doctor kept saying my period should return to normal within a few months, but it never did.  I asked to switch and was given Yaz, which worked better (only one period a month!), but I was worried about the side effects and had heard about serious health problems with that pill.  I actually did a lot of research in switching pills, and the general consensus was that between Yaz and Loestrin 24fe, people loved one, and hated the other.  So if Yaz didn't work for you, you'll probably like Loestrin.  My husband and I now use the fertility awareness method, where I take my temperature every day.  My body is back to normal, there are no side effects, and I feel great!  I highly recommend it.

  • I've been on this pill for about 2 years.  I haven't had any problems with it, but I haven't really had a period since I've started taking it.  Mostly it has been spotting probably three times during the entire time I've been taking it.  I asked the doctor about it and she said that was fine since it's such a low dose.  Not sure if it's healthy or not but i don't mind not having my period haha.

  • on it... but haven't had experience with other ones. I believe it's supposed to be the easiest on your body. I haven't had any problems with it (eg. 3 day periods, no spotting, no weight gain). I also went up a cup size but that could just be because I never tried any BC before.
  • I was on it for 10 years with no problems at all! It's good for people prone to headaches.

  • Switched to this pill about 1 year ago, and will be switching again once I have my yearly appointment.  Sex drive = -5, I've gained about 20 lbs that WON'T budge no matter what I do (diet, exercise, etc.), and I am such an emotional mess at times.
  • HATED IT!

I gained so much weight and was taken off by my OBGYN because of that...

  • LOVE Loestrin. I tried Orthotricyclin and Seasonique, and both of those made me crazy and ruined my sex drive. Loestrin has been fantastic- no weight gain, no crazy mood swings, no headaches, no lowered sex drive. The only issue I have had is that my period comes as odd times, but its never heavy or disruptive. I know three other women who take Loestrin and love it, and we are all very different body shapes and personalities.

Every woman is different, but I would definitely recommend Loestrin!

  • I was on orthotricyclen low for many years and then I was on yaz for a couple years. With all the health risks popping up everywhere about yaz, I wanted to switch. My doctor switched me to Loestrin 24Fe. I only took it for 4 months, but my period went away. I was also going through major life changes (moved across the country, started a new job, husband started a new job), so there were many stressors that may have caused my period to stop. Regardless, I stopped taking it and sure enough, my period came back this month. Everyone is completely different and really, you don't know how your body will react until you try it. That's the conclusion I've come to with birth control.

  • I've been on this for almost a year and I haven't had a problem with it. I asked the Dr. before I got on it if it was going to make me gain weight, and she said that it's a myth that BC makes you pack on the lbs! Strange..... I didn't gain weight from it at all
  • I have been on it for about 4 months now and no issues except I skipped about 2 periods apparently this is not abnormal for some people who take Loestrin.  I asked my MD to change it because I had not sex drive on Yasmin.  Haven't had any weight gain yet so far so good.  I like that it has iron in it since I am anemic also.
  • Loestrin was the ABSOLUTE WORST for me! not only did i gain a TON of weight, the pill made me crazy. i don't mean a little moody - i mean that i would start crying randomly and be totally depressed for weeks. i thought i was bi-polar. not to mention the major break-thru bleeding.  my gyno switched me to YAZ and i have been happy as a lark ever since.
