Re: XP: Kitchen Color Accent
That set would totally work.
While I like the set you picked, I think I would stay away from brown because of the black appliances. But that's just me. I would probably try to add a pop of color... maybe a bright green or light blue and some white.
However, if you are in love with that set, go for it. Its neutral enough that it works, I just dont think it really adds a lot.

I'm not married to it. And I have no idea what to do for a window treatment. I *think* the seller is leaving us those sage curtains, but I'll want to swap them out soon.
Do I do a valance? A roman shade? What color?
Can you tell I have major issues visualizing decor??

I was thinking bright green too. Partly because I'm obsessed with this dish towel... minus the price tag.

I can't remember-what colors don't you like?
What about a maroon color if the walls are tan? Have you thought about painting the walls a different color? I think you have to have bright color accents or give the room so more color.
Choo - That's adorable! But yeah $$$ for a towel
Mamie - For a window treatment I would go the roman shade route... I think valances tend to look dated. You could do a roman shade in a bright color or the pink if you end up going with the above set and it would look really cute.

Ahh. Get me away from Anthro's site! I just fell in love with a $990 area rug. NOOOOOO.
DH is weird about greens. :-/ Though I do like that color.

I dislike reds/maroons/some blues (because I overkilled blues in our last two apartments)
He dislikes some greens.
I may someday repaint, but not yet since I like that color well enough, and I have enough on my plate without thinking about painting.
So... roman shade? Can I be boring and do a cream colored?
Choo, that one is cute, but I like this more!

oooooh I missed that one! Love. It.

Forget the roman shade and use tin foil. I find it adds just the right touch to the home. Plus for folks who are lazy, you never have to wash them, just recycle them and put up fresh ones.
Cream would look fine. What about Plum colors?
Tin foil would be hot. It would complement the stainless steel fridge!
Finding plum roman shades is haaaard.

This reminds me of an article I saw in the (very) small town newspaper where my grandma lives. It was a big debate over what to cover the window with at the church in order to keep the heat in. I think the final decision was tin foil. Gotta love small town papers!
I have a valence over my tiny kitchen window.
Anyway. I like that set you posted. I think it is neutral enough to go with just about anything. JCP has a ton of roman shades, but I haven't looked to see if they have plum.

Great kitchen! The wall & cabinet colors of your kitchen make me think of coffee house colors... (think warm browns, like terracotta or mocha, which usually go nicely with accents of maroon or dark green). I'd try to pick up on the warm tones of the wood, and use an accent color sparingly to brighten it up.
Although i really like the potholder set you have picked out, I think the colors are a little bland for your room. I love the roman shade idea, it would look much more modern than a frilly valence.
Jumping in late, but...I think you should go with roman shades with a pop of whatever bright color you like. I love, love, love the roman shades we got for our kitchen (ordered through Home Depot..Levelor I believe). Our kitchen is green with white trim, cherry cabinets and stainless appliances, so we went for white shades, but I think you could pull off a bright color shade and get some cute accessories to match. What you picked out was cute, but I'd lean away from browns if you have black appliances.
On a completely different topic, shame on you choo for posting links to my favorite store EVER. Fan since 1999. Anthropologie is the store I would open if I were to open a store that was totally and completely my style, and I swear 90% of my clothes (pre-pg) are from there. True story: I actually emailed them to suggest they sell maternity clothes, after walking into their new store in D.C. when I was on a business trip last month and leaving in tears (literally) because everything was so beautiful but doesn't fit. It's just as well because I've been on a spending freeze, but I totally just bought that cupcake dishtowel.
Thanks, guys. The accent color's just NOT coming to me right now. Maybe I'll just wait it out until we're in the house and then figure it out then.
What I have learned:
no brown
no valance.
That's progress.
