Double dating

Does anyone else have a hard time finding couples to hang out with? Most of our friends have kids and want to hang out with other people with kids.

Re: Double dating

  • I totally agree!  We aren't ready for kids (if at all) and its really hard to find people to hang out with when you don't have them!  I moved here about 3 years ago and I haven't really found any friends.  Its so much harder to find friends when your older!  HAHA

  • Same here. We've got 2-3 'A-List' couples, but it would be nice if we had some more to hang with.
  • "A-List" couples, that's funny!  I usually meet people through my job and since I haven't found one yet, I have no local friends.  DH has a couple friends that are couples but they both have kids...and I'm not friends with the wives on my own.  It's definitely harder the older you get.  Good thing I have a sister, even if she is over 2 hours away.
  • I completely agree.  We went out of town with 2 other couples, one child free and one had two kids.  I had nothing at all in common with the parent couple and it was awkward.  After concert, they were too tired to hang.  It made for an awkward morning when the breakfast place had a wait and the parents HAD to be home by 2 to pick up kid.  Since other couple rode with them, weekend ended early.  Happy birthday to me.

So, nothing in common, crapping out on doing things... yes, they are DHs friends, but come on.  If you don't want to go, don't go, Please.  Why would I want to do anything with them again?  I don't.

I will add that our problem isn't the kid, non-kid thing. Our BFFs each have a child (we don't), and while that has changed the way that we have to plan some things, it hasn't changed our friendships as a whole that much. We love getting to be part of their childrens' lives. It would just be nice if we had more couples that we had comfortable hang-out repoire with.

It seems like every time we meet some new people, one half of the couple just won't work for us. Like - I'll like the woman a lot, but after I meet the H I know my H & her H just won't get along - and so hanging out as couples won't work.

It gets frustrating. There needs to be an e-harmony for married couples to hang out that doesn't involve swingers.

  • Ditto to everything everyone else has said.

I feel like we won't make new friends til we have kids ... its sortof sad.

We're the same way. We also find that we often "settle". I can't stand the wife but DH likes the husband so it's a 50/50 split. Or, we meet someone at a party hit it off then go out and start talking current events, politics or religion and we realize that we aren't a match. It's like looking for a spouse again, but minus the sex.

  • This is my biggest fear about moving to OH. Making new friends that click can be hard enough, but finding great couples to hang out with can be even harder.

I agree with what everyone has said here. We're not going to have kids and I know that can make it awkward. I've definitely felt left out because I didn't have/don't want kids. We've also run into the problem with one half of the couple being awesome and the other half leaving us scratching our heads.

There really does need to be a friend finder service! I'd sign H and I up in an instant!
