Loestrin 24?

I am on my 2nd pack of Loestrin 24 and so far I am not a fan.  In both packs in the 2nd week I had a full blown period with spotting that lasted into the 3rd week.  I realize break through bleeding is normal, but come on!  I mean we are talking clots and all here ladies!

Anyone else have a problem with this BC?

Re: Loestrin 24?

  • That was the first BC that I took and had the same problem, so I thought it was me just getting use to it but after 6 months I decided I could not handle 2 to 3 weeks of periods and asked my doctor to switch to something else. My doctor put me on Loestrin which did the same thing for me...Now I am on Yazmine and Love it.

So, my experience was it never got better but that was just me.

  • I was on Loestrin and I had problems with my period never stopping, and I also had some major clotting issues. Ick! I'd recommend trying something else. I only got worse after staying on it a while (4-5 months?) Good Luck!
  • I hated this BC and will never take it again. I gained about 10 pounds on it...UUGGH.

    I say switch.

  • I was on Loestrin 24 for months and it made me so moody and depressed. I was a psycho. I didnt have too many problems with breakthrough but my period was so light that I thought I had missed it one month and took a pregnancy test. I was on Yaz for a while and liked it but switched after the commercials and studies came out saying how your risk for complications is much higher with it than others. I am doing the NuvaRing now and I love not having to take a pill but we shall see how it goes.
  • I have been on Loestrin for at least 2 years. My GYN recommended it highly.  Honestly, I have had very few problems.  I think there was one month where I had my period twice in one month.  I still have the occasional breakthrough bleeding, but I think that is common with a lot of BC pills.  If you are really concerned then talk to your GYN.  Your body may just be adjusting to new hormones and it may take some time to regulate.  Change if you want though, its your body and I can imagine how frustrating it must be to having that problem.
  • I lasted 1 month on this BC.  It made my period last for 3 weeks, and my blood pressure skyrocketed so badly that I had to go onto medication for my blood pressure.

    Not a fan at all.

  • I was on it for 2 months, and would randomly get my period and have a lot of spotting/cramps. I liked it because it was cheap, but I wasn't a fan.

I had break through bleeding for the first 4 months of taking it! There was one stretch where I had bleeding for 45 days straight! I'm going to my gyno tomorrow and am hoping to change pills. I've been on this one now for a year and while the break through bleeding has decreased, it still happens at least once in between periods, also my sex drive is pretty well depleted.

I think any OB/GYN will encourage you to stick it out for 3 months though, so I would just keep track of all of your symptoms until then and then go in if things don't get better.

  • I am going to ask for a different pill on Friday when I see him.  This is awful!   I don't want to do this for another month!  Thanks for all of your input ladies!

  • I was on this for about 4 months and experience breakthrough bleeding each time. I was also incredibly moody during the whole process. It was a long 4 months for me, but I figured I would give it the recommended 90 days to see if it worked. My gyno said this is her favorite pill and always recommends it, but realizes its not for everyone. She switched me over to Ortho Tricyclin. So far this has worked really well for me and I've been much much happier!
  • I was on Loestrin for 4 months and hated it the entire time.  I never had my period during the last week..  My doctor asked me to wait it out but after 4 months I switched to the patch.  I liked it but actually ended up getting the Implanon BC implant in my arm and I love it!
