Mames... pick a room

Re: Mames... pick a room

  • Sweet!

Well, I'm still not totally decided on the LR yet. Right now we have the greige walls, white curtains (the seller left behind), and my beige and mocha furniture.

I'm thinking plain or slightly patterned beige area rug so that I don't have to swap it out whenever I want to redecorate. So accent pillows... plums/purples or yellow/golds?

Also -- the bathroom. It's currently painted a blue/gray, and the flooring has dark blue in it. What color shower curtain and bath rugs? White seems safe for the curtain.... but white rugs are a no go.

  • it's sideways, but here's a better view of the bathroom paint up close

  • I would do the yellow accents in the bathroom and do the plums in the living room... not sure I would go with yellow rugs unless they were patterned but maybe do a navy rug and yellow accents... make it sort of nautical/preppy.  It would be cute to get some fun yellow vases or cobalt glass vases with yellow flowers, maybe a striped shower curtain... it wouldnt take much but would add a nice bright feel to it.
  • Thanks!

Okay, next space. The back "patio'!

What kind of furniture (cheap!) do you envision out here? A bistro set with two chairs and a small table? A conversation set? Or a table and chairs set?

  • How much space do you have?  How do you think you'll use it?  If you are going to have lots of BBQ's and people over for dinner, go with a more traditional table and chairs, if you see it more as a place to hang out with friends and such, I'd go with the conversation area.

If its big enough, I would go with a conversation set since its covered... get a loveseat and a couple chairs, adirondack chairs would work well too.  Add a firepit and it would be a great place to hang out.

  • Do you have a garden ridge near you?  they have all kinds of cheap patio furniture.  We bought a set about 3 years ago and its holding up pretty well.  I would eventually like to replace it with something nicer but for now it works and I think we spent less than $200 on a table, 6 chairs and an umbrella.
  • Oh yeah... and World Market usually has some adirondack chairs in the spring for under $100 a piece but I'm not positive of the quality.
  • I'm not sure how often we'll entertain. Probably not as much as I think. :)  I would like a cozy place to go out and chill though, so I could see myself wanting at least a padded chair with arms.

I saw some really cheap sets at BigLots.com. I may stop there this weekend to see what they have in store.

  • I second the yellow/gold in the bathroom and plums in the living room.  For the backyard I would go with a cozy conversation set.  Even if it is just you out there, the bistro set seems too formal to go out and read a book or nest.  I'd want furniture that allows me to kick back, put my feet up and relax.

  • Thanks, guys!

What do we think about this?

Where did you find this? Online? Share!  I definitely like the first set better but this set looks like something DH and I could use! Only thing we have is an uncomfortable metal bistro set he hates, so he set it up out front. We have nothing in the back but we do a ton of bbqs in the summer months (ie most of the year).

ETA: If I had looked before I hit post closer, i would have seen my own answer in the html! lol

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I can kick back on that loveseat with a margarita in one hand watching Dh mow the lawn. ;)

What a perfect plan! You love margs and he loves to mow the lawn! A match made in heaven.

  • Indeed! Though I have this paranoid fear of him losing a toe during said mowing.
