...I just sat on the toilet and cried...
Frustrated with our health (doesn't) care system last night. Came home, took and pee and cried. I felt much better after that!
Anyone? Anyone?

What happened hon?
Maybe try a different approach?
I've lived for years with back pain and finally figured out why. For years I've done regular massage therapy was able to keep most of the pain managable but begain working with a personal trainer when she suggested I needed to work on my core strength. With his help I was able to strenthen my back enough that I could point to a small area where the pain was a) the worst and b) still present. Until then it was just pain spread across my back.
My doctor (who is excellent) suggested I try a chiropractor, my trainer recommended one, I got over my fear and went. He did x-rays which showed him where to focus treatment and I'm actually pain free for the first time in nine years. Completely pain free. According to my chiro - what he looks for is different from what doctors are trained to look for so they can miss subtle things on the x-rays that to him show major problems.
So maybe if you broaden your care professionals someone will have an answer? My chiro does foot scans for orthotics so maybe it would help.
I'm sorry you're in so much pain.
Unfortunately, medical care has it's limitations.
They only have so many tests they can do -- and only so many treatments they can administer.
Have you tried alternative therapies? Maybe some acupuncture would surprise you.
I have what I call arthritis in one toe... I always know when the weather is going to change since it hurts so much I limp. Fortunately, it's only at certain times of year. But the pain does suck.
Feel better.
I completely understand.
I was in a car accident 10 years ago where I was rear-ended from someone going at 80km/hr. I was in one of those old-school vans that didn't have headrests so I suffured severe whiplash. I do not remember a a time in the last ten years where I have had more than two days in row without being in pain. Sometimes its a day-long dullache, sometimes it hurts so bad that I take three pain killers, use a heating pad and have one massage me to sleep. I also get migraines from this injury. I have tried chiropractor which slightly reduces the pain sometimes. I have tried physical therapy which slightly reduces the pain as well. I am trying acupuncture now too.
I am frustrated because they look at my X-rays and tell me they see nothing. Its even more frustrating because my injury is considered soft-tissue and with the government/insurance laws soft-injury claims cap out at a couple thousand dollars. I spend about $1800 a year treating my injury after benefits. That does not include things I have to pay other people to do (any work that requires my arms to be over my head, such as painting).
I keep going to the chiropractor because its the most affordable. I can get 15 sessions before my benefits max out. Before Alberta Health Care would pay for $14 of your session so I used to be able to get 25 sessions before benefits would max out. A** holes.
Good Luck, keep exploring your options.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback. And I actually feel less crazy knowing others deal with this same thing. A few years ago I attended a few meetings for sufferers of chronic pain but I left feeling angry and frustrated...cause most of them at least had a diagnosis of some kind!
I danced and was involved with competitive gymnastics for years and years. I know my body has suffered as a result, so pain is nothing new to me, I have been dealing with it since I was a kid. These two particular issues were caused by injuries (in one case I fell in the shower, the other my nephew dropped an ottoman on my foot). I have gone through physio, numerous doctors, an ortho surgeon, cortisone shots, etc for my shoulder?nothing helped. I went to my chiro but he refused to work on it b/c it clearly wasn?t a chiro issue. I suppose it doesn?t hurt to try something new. I will def consider seeing therapists that may not be within the regular health care system.
I am finding it more and more difficult to live without heavy pain meds (which I was on before). I am only 32, the side effects and long term affects of some of those medications are not good. I just can?t imagine being on them for the rest of my life! I am not a person who wallows, but I feel like I just want to give this up. It just feels like a fight I can?t win

I can sympathize with everything you wrote and really do understand how bad it must be. Oddly enough I didn't go to the trainer for back pain. I had started yoga and pilates for core strength when DH and I decided to step up our fitness routine and consult a trainer. In the intro session he was going through our goals and areas we wanted to focus on and DH was the one who said "What about your back, that always hurts" and I went "oh yeah! Can you help me work my back?"
Constant pain wasn't really something I registered, it just was. Extreme pain (like a 9/10) is when I would complain. It was a shock when I realized the chiropractor had worked and I DIDN'T feel pain. THat's when DH realized how bad it was when I kept walking around going "wow, that doesn't hurt! Cool. I had forgotten what this felt like!"
Accupuncture isn't on your list - maybe try that? It's a sign of a good chiro that he wouldn't work on it, not that there's much consolation in that.
The only other thing I can point out is mine really was (and still is) a combination of things that worked. It wasn't all one magic fix. If I hadn't strengthened the muscles the chiropractor wouldn't have been as successful. I still need massages for tension but it's a different part then my chiro works. So it's certainly not one size fits all.
