What's your favorite...

... chocolate and fruit dessert?  I'm making dessert for two friends' birthday this weekend and need some inspiration!  Smile

Re: What's your favorite...

  • Chocolate and fruit?  Other than chocolate covered strawberries or orange rinds, I generally don't consume them together.  However, you know what would be good?  Either a dark, bittersweet chocolate cake or chocoflan topped with cinnamon-vanilla infused strawberries.  I've not tried this particular chocoflan recipe, but it looks right.  You'll know you've made it correctly if, when you pull it out of the oven, the cake is on the top (even though you poured the flan on top)...they traded places while baking.  For the strawberries, the halve them and toss and marinade them in a mixture of vanilla-cimmamon-sugar to your taste for a few hours in the fridge.

    ETA: This person  image and

this person image both used that recipe to make these chocoflans and they both look yum to me--so I'd say it's good.

  • So... two separate desserts?

My favorite chocolate dessert is french silk pie.

My favorite fruit dessert is strawberry short cake.

My favorite chocolate and fruit dessert is sachertorte.

  • Fondue!  You could do a dark chocolate, milk chocolate and a white chocolate with strawberries, oranges, raspberries, pound cake, pretzels...

    yum, yum!

  • Okay, chocoflan and sachertorte are both new to me and look amazing.

Fondue is always a winner but I honestly don't want to clean up the mess (13 people = alot of chocolate dripped around) so I'll save that one for a smaller group.

Oh, and I haven't decided if I'm going to combo the chocolate and fruit or do two different things so keep any ideas chocoloate or fruity or combo coming.  I love drooling at my desk.  Smile

  • If you like chocolate and peanut butter this is amazing:

That is my all time favorite dessert

DH doesn't like cake so he always asks for this instead for his birthday.

OMG, Sachertorte ("sah-[phlegm]-er-tor-tah") is fantastic.  The traditional cake is made with apricot filling, but I've seen raspberry, and more rarely, strawberry.

For chocolate (no fruit), there's always death by chocolate, which is always a winner:

    Ingredients:

A pan of brownies (baked and ready to go)
Batch of Jello chocolate pudding or chocolate mousse of choice (already made)
    Tub o' cool whip
    Package of chocolate chips*

Directions: Divide all the ingredients into two groups.  Layer a large bowl with half of the brownies (crumbled), followed by half of the mousse/pudding, followed by half of the cool whip, and the chocolate chips.  Then repeat in the same order with the remaining half of the ingredients.  Chill for several hours before serving.

*You can substitute whatever you want for the chocolate chips.  My sister likes heath bar pieces.  I've always wanted to do reese pieces.  I could see crumbled oreos, strawberries, even drained mandarin oranges.

  • Death by Chocolate sounds like a trifle.  A yummy one at that.

  • Yep, it's a trifle indeed.  One of these would be ideal, but I've always used a mixing bowl (cause I'm fancy like that).

  • I was going to suggest a Trifle as the fruit one... but dang Death by chocolate sounds good too.  :)

My grandma makes a better than *ahem "marital relations"* cake (don't want the work filter to bust me but my crazy Grandma calls it right on out when you ask what it is!) that is crazy good - just a regular German Chocolate boxed mix which is smothered in a can of sweetened condensed milk, caramel and chocolate sauce, "frosted" with whipped cream and covered in chopped up Heath Bars.  It is divine.

  • oh. my. gosh.

How am I going to decide???

  • I like chocolate cake with raspberries or strawberries.  Especially a choc mousse cake with raspberries and white choc shavings........hmmmm....ok now I'm hungry...

You're hungry? And in NYC? Go eat your face off!!!

  • OH I did....don't worry...I had a huge piece of carrot cake 2 nights in a row at dinner, AND a huge slice of cheesecake at the Carnegie Deli for lunch!  Just roll me down 5th Avenue....  Stick out tongue
