Need Advice on Repairing Wood Floors
I was wondering if anyone has any advice on repairing hardwood floors or experience repairing hardwood floors. I dropped my laptop on my hardwood floors. There are a few superficial scratches, but two small but deep gashes. I'm not sure how best to it fill it in and make sure that it matches the rest of the floor. My DH and I have gone to Lowe's and Home Depot. It looks like we have to fill it in w/ wood filler. After letting it dry, stain it to the color that closely matches. Thanks.
Re: Need Advice on Repairing Wood Floors
Is it imperative to repair it right away? I mean, is it really driving you crazy? The reason I ask is b/c it is inevitable that you will get more gashes.
We refinished our entire living room (even added about 200 more square feet as we expanded the living room), which is hardwood (our house was built in the 50s so we were able to finally find wood that matched it completely for the new section) just last year and the boys have already gashed it in several places by dropping things and by pushing things across the floor.
I say, let it be until you're absolutely sure you cannot stand it anymore and then sand and stain the whole thing over again. Gashes give character. That's my theory.
But my contractor husband says he'd use Bondo over wood filler to fill the gashes. He says that's much better and is made by Minwax near the stains at HD.
