So ladies I need your recs...
I'm planning to ask on the knot site as well but does anybody have anything that they would highly recommend using for my wedding? I'm namely looking at reception locations in the Durham, NC area and places to buy flowers and invitations. Anybody do their reception at a hotel? Pros and cons?
Re: So ladies I need your recs...
I also had my ceremony and reception at the Carolina Inn, and loved it. I loved that we had everything there (ceremony and reception) and that people could also stay there and not have to drive anywhere. (It was also in walking distance to Franklin St. for the younger people that wanted to go out afterwards!)
My friend had her reception at Parizade in Durham. Parizade was a great site, it was the perfect size for her reception and the food was great. She used Luster Studios for her photog and the photos were amazing- I wish I had used him for our wedding!
I second Durham Catering Company! Awesome food & they are really good about working within your budget. We still have people talking about how good the food was, 3 years later!
We had our reception at Greystone Inn in Durham. Leslie was really easy to work with, and you can get a way with minimal decorating since the place is already pretty fancy looking. When we used them, you had to pick a caterer from their "preferred caterers" list (DCC was one), but I think you can use any caterer now. You just may have to pay any extra fee if they're not "preferred". Silly, I know.
I third Durham Catering. Amazing goodness!!!
We had our wedding and reception at Bay 7 in Durham. Too expensive, but amazing.
I am not sure what your budget is, but I would highly recommend the Washington Duke Inn. Most of our guests stayed on site, which was very convenient.
Here is the review I wrote after my wedding (2005)

Reception ? Washington Duke Inn ? Diane Tighe Grade:A+
Very pleased with the service we received from the Washington Duke Inn. Diane was great to work with. We had to plan our wedding from out of town, and she set up a Saturday full of meetings so we could meet with various vendors?photographers, florists, bakers and a dj. We booked three of our vendors from this one day, which was a huge help. The tasting we had was amazing, we gave them an idea of what we wanted, and they provided two sample dishes for each course. We had a six course taster menu and the food on wedding day was perfect. We also had a bridal luncheon the day before the wedding and a Sunday brunch the follow day at the Washington Duke Inn. Everything was fabulous.Oh, and we used Cinda's Creative Cakes for our wedding cake. AH-MAZING! She is super sweet and reasonably priced.
Amy's Alterations in Chapel Hill for (obviously) alterations. She's quick, reasonably priced, and does great work.
I'd suggest checking out etsy for invitations. I wish I'd been aware of etsy when we got married. A friend of mine used a seller last year for hers and they were awesome. Send me a PM or email me at sngedds at gmail dot com, if you're interested. I can find out who she used.
