Sex after baby

This is my first post on this board, Hi!

My DH and I had a baby about 1 year ago and I'd like to see if anyone else has had a similar experience.

After having baby, sex hurt for about 4-5 months (like painful even if aroused)-- as if things were rearranged down there.  We had sex probably 2-3x per month but mostly for keeping our emotional bond and for stress relief (for him too).  It hurt as in grit your teeth and bear it pain--- like needles pricking the inside of my vagina.  Anyways, a few months later everything completely changed and now sex feels BETTER than pre-pregnancy-- like 1000x more awesome-- more positions feel great, etc.  I think it has to do w/ my hormones because this happened after I got my first PP period (I EBF so it took 9 months to get it back).  I have a crazy and nearly insatiable sex drive now-- I want to introduce new things to the bedroom so I'm lurking here to get ideas. Any other ladies with a similar experience post-birth?  Just curious I suppose.

Re: Sex after baby

  • Not really.  Sounds like everything is working out well for you now.  PP I didn't have any pain during sex.  I was worried I would but nope.  Things feel pretty much the same.  My sex drive is up but I think that's because I was on the pill before and now I'm using Mirena.  I'm glad the pain went away for you!

  • Wow did you talk to your gyno when all of that was happening? H and I started having sex like a week after DS was born and there was no pain at all.

I'm assuming it was a vaginal birth? Did you tear or anything? I was extremely ;ucky in both deliveries that I didn't  tear or have any abrasions and was in active (pushing) labor less than 20 minutes both times so I don't know if thats why adjusting back into the swing of things was easier for us.

I'm glad things are better! Have you thought about blindfolds or toys to add into the mix?

  • Yup, vaginal birth.  I didn't mention it to the Gyno-- just figured it would go away and it did eventually.  I was cleared for sex at 6 weeks PP.   I had a 2nd degree tear and that did have an effect on my comfort initially.  But yeah, things are way better now.  I am realllly interested in using toys-- I am amidst conversations with my DH about sex toys and he doesn't seem too excited about it.  I think I'm just going to bust one out and see how he reacts.  Any recommendations on a good "starter" toy?   Anything that will increase HIS pleasure, not just mine?  I have no idea where to start.  Thanks.
