Re: **laurabeth**

  • It is the easiest recipe to remember.  Just buy one of everything!

    1 stick butter

    1 package Oreos

1 1/2 gallon ice cream (we typically use vanilla but this time I'm going out on a limb and using mint chocolate chip.  Really you can use any ice cream flavor you want).

    1 tub of Cool Whip

    1 jar hot fudge

Melt the butter in a bowl and crush 2 rows of Oreos.  Comine until well mixed and press into the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch pan.  Freeze for a few hours.  Next you slice the ice cream and press onto the bottom layer (I find it easiest to buy one of those cartons that you can peel apart and have a perfect square block if ice cream rather than the ones that are more rounded with the top that comes off). Oh and it's best to use your hands to do the pressing on this one.  Next, melt the hot fudge in the microwave and drizzle over the ice cream leyer and freeze again until frozen.  Then you spoon the Cool Whip over the hot fudge layer and then crush the rest of the Oreos and spread on top of the Cool Whip (you can sample a few Oreos if you need to...you will still have enough with just half of a row left - trust me, my husband and I tried this last night).  Freeze one more time.  I find that taking it out of the freezer about 10 minutes before you want to serve it makes it easier to slice.  It sounds like it takes a lot of time to make, but it doesn't take long to do all of the steps.  You just need to plan ahead on this one is all.  My 6th grade teacher made this once and my best friend from back then and I have been making this ever since.  Both of our families love it.  I hope you enjoy it!
