Bikini wax?

I've never done anything of the sort, only home stuff. I'm getting married in 7 months and would like to do this for our wedding night, as we're not going to be "together" until our wedding night. I have a couple questions: How much does it hurt? I've read to use No Scream Cream, which I plan on getting, and also taking Advil, which I plan to do as well. Also, I'm scared of a full-on brazilian, at least to start off with. Where all do they wax in a regular bikini wax? Also, I was wondering how one would go about finding the best place to have it done. I don't know any ladies who get it done (if they do, I don't know about it) so I don't have anyone to ask where the best place is. What's the best way to research? Thanks!

Re: Bikini wax?

  • I had never waxed before I got married, and I went about a week before my wedding day. I never went back to shaving!! Waxing is AMAZING! As far as the pain goes, seriously its not that big of a deal. If you go to someone that knows what they're doing, they'll do it so fast, it will sting a little bit, and it will be over before you know it. It isn't painless, but it is TOTALLY worth it. Feeling that smooth and non-stubbly is priceless, in my opinion. A regular bikini wax doesn't even hurt at all...I've always done brazilian with a little strip. The worst part that hurts is the inner labia. If you are doing a simple bikini wax, it really won't hurt more than getting brows waxed, especially if you use the no-scream cream.

A normal bikini wax just goes on your bikini line, but you can ask to go as far in from your bikini line as you prefer. You should maybe go to citysearch and look under "wax" or "spa" and then find ratings for the best in your town. good luck! You won't regret it!

  • I would recommend that you get waxed at least once, about a month prior to your wedding date. That way you can see if you enjoy the outcome (not sure why you wouldn't) and see how your skin handles. Some people experience redness and it's better if you have a 'heads' up that way you don't have to experience that during your wedding night.

I've never tried NO SCREAM CREME but I'm going to look into it especially since I've been doing multiple treatments (full brazilian, full legs, underarms) and after a while the pain DOES kick in. Depending on where you live, maybe you can find something on city search? Look for spas and try to do a google search on their reviews. A good waxer will be quick. A full brazilian doesn't take more than 10 minutes for me. Allow 3 weeks of full untouched growth for best results.

  • I've never had one either....but I have a stupid question? Do you wear a certain type of underwear when you get it done....or does it not even matter because you have to take it off for a full brazilian?

  • Seriously, it depends on how much hair you have, and your pain tolerance.   A previous poster said it didn't hurt.  I beg to differ.  I can't take many over the counter anti-inflammatories due to allergies, and I have a LOT of hair.  It hurt when I did the brazilian, and I was seriously achy for a day.  This coming from someone who's had a c-section, been hit by a car, and spent three days caring for her terminally ill mom with a dislocated shoulder, so I know pain.  I've done a bikini wax, too, and that's not near as bad because it's just one strip on each side, and the area is a bit less sensitive.  I've since had laser treatment, and that is much better, and a more permanent way to remove hair.

As for who to go to, there may be an online review that you could find Google "yourcityname best waxing" or something similar to find.

Bikini waxing only removes the hair that would show in places when you're wearing a bikini.

  • awesome! Thanks you guys! It took me some searching, but I found one that has AMAZING reviews that's actually right down the street from my house! We'll see how it goes...

K- Some 'salons' do have underwear that they have you put on if you are getting a bikini wax but for a full brazilian you don't wear a thing.

  • Waxing isn't as bad as you think. The first time I got the full brazilian was surprised... Because it wasn't as bad as I had thought. I didn't use any numbing creams either...
  • I too was very aprehensive about getting a wax, but seriously its the best thing ever. Like a pervious post said, if you get a good person, they'll be quick. Also I recommend, hard wax. Hard wax is wax that gets hard on the skin after seconds and then its pulled off with out strips. I have tried both types of wax and found that hard wax hurts ALOT less that the traditional.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hey, you may want to try sugaring instead.  And skip the advil, it thins the blood, which means you will have more blood rushing to the surface which can create an itch after waxing or sugaring.  Sugaring is faster and more designed for sensitive skin.  I get a brazillian done every 4 weeks, it's not pleasant, but its not actually as painful as you might think.

  • waxing is the bessssssssssssttttttttttt! Just make sure you don't go anywhere cheap. I've been waxing for 6 years.... and never have I once been back to shaving.
  • Have you looked into sugaring?  It's far less painful than waxing and less effects to your skin (waxing can sometimes cause bleeding and it can rip skin off in certain areas if not done properly).  Sugaring is much less invasive and while it hurts a little (having any hair ripped out in that region, IMO, is gonna hurt some), it's not nearly as bad as sugaring.

I decided to try it and LOVED it!  So much that I've gotten many of my friends to switch and they love it more than waxing as well.  I would look into seeing if there is a place that does it around you!  GL!

  • My Personal Brazilian Horror Story

Just a caution - don't do it for the first time the week of the wedding!

I got a full brazilian sugaring the Tuesday before my Friday wedding, and I had a horrible reaction. I broke out in hundreds of little inflamed whiteheads. I didn't know what to do, and the salon gave me different advice each day I called. TMI ALERT: I ended up having to pop each one with a needle and apply antiseptic.

THANKFULLY,  by the end of Friday night, things were no longer painful and it didn't mess up the wedding night.

Thinking that maybe it was a fluke and that if I used antiseptic right away it wouldn't happen again, I had it done AGAIN before our honeymoon (2 months later). It did happen again, and while it wasn't as bad, I haven't been back.

All of that said, I haven't heard of that happening to anyone else and I don't want to scare you all off of it...just know there's a risk and maybe don't schedule it too close to vacation or weddings. :)

Oh, and the process did hurt a lot. The first time I took ibuprofen and had a glass of wine first, and that helped. The 2nd I took the ibuprofen but not the wine, and it was worse. And I was sore for about 24 hours, not including the reaction.

I had the same thing happen to me, only I had the waxing done about a week before our wedding. It left me scabby for our wedding night.

Since then, I've tried a local spa that uses very high quality wax. After going to the new spa, I've determined my first experience was a complete fluke. For a brazilian wax, paying more definitely meant a better result for me (I pay $50 + tip for each wax, but it's totally worth it).

  •   Why get waxed for your wedding night?

DH isn't going to respect and appreciate your being tidy and smooth after waxing/sugaring. Unless he has had to tackle a scruffy muffy first.
