Howdy,
This is a pretty heavy topic but I thought I'd ping this group for assistance. A good friend of mine is having issues with her husband. She doesn't really do the message board thing so I figured I'd give it a try to see what I can find out. Her husband has a pretty bad sex addiction which he has had therapy for and she knew about and it was an open issue that they talked about often. He recently cheated on her, claims to be really sorry and now says he will get help and get better because he doesn't want to lose her. My question is: Do you know of any support groups or really good therapists in town?
I know it's kind of hard to answer that on this board without explaining HOW you know about the therapist or group so if you have ideas or suggestions, you can email me at kpritchard71 (at) hotmail (dot) com.
Thanks!
Katie

Re: Addiction Question
There is a 12-step group for this addiction--Sex Addicts Anonymous. I had a friend who attended their meetings...I really did have a friend; it's not code for me! According to her, you have to watch those groups, though. Some were just attending to look for partners to satisfy their addiction and not really to get support to quit the addictive behavior. I'm sure if she googled "sex addiction" the groups would come up.
Also, maybe if she googled the same and added "therapists in Cincinnati", that may lead her to some specialists in this area as well. I hope she's seeking counseling as well. I'm sure she could use a lot of support right now, too. I don't know if they offer some type of support group like Al-Anon for loved ones of this addiction or not. Again, maybe google could answer this question. If you can't tell, I rely pretty heavily on google
I would not be so quick to dismiss church based or Christ-centered addictions programs... I've seen awesome awesome positive changes in several people in our congregation who are part of the "Celebrate Recovery" program. This program deals with all addictions (drugs, alcohol, food, sex) and is open to those who are currently dealing with addictions and for those who are on the road to recovery, yet still need that support and encouragment. Here is the info:

Honestly I think this is something that should be treated by a licenced medical professional as a medical/mental health issue, not a moral or religious issue. Besides, not all of us even believe in Jesus.
