After birth control....

Hey girls, I just stopped taking my BC pills earlier this week and was wondering if any of you who have stopped taking BC can answer a question for me...I have heard from many woman that your sex drive increases after you stop taking it. How long does it take for this to happen after you stop taking the pill? Thanks!

Re: After birth control....

  • I know it varies from person to person but for me it was the next month after I stopped BC. I don't know if it was really because of me being off the hormones or if I was just really excited not to be on it anymore and was more of a placebo affect. Either way, it is MUCH better now :)
  • I stopped taking my BCP at the beginning of March and my sex drive is already way higher than it was before. Maybe its mental, but I doubt it...
  • I agree with pp. I stopped taking mine earlier in the month, and already have my sex drive increased. I do not know if its mental, but its done wonders for us. :)

so wait you stopped BCP but your H refuses to wear condoms???? Are you TTC?

  • I noticed a difference my first cycle off BCP.  I agree with PPs that it was possibly a mental response to just knowing my libido would be returning.
  • It's not that your sex drive increases after stopping it.  It's that for many women (I'd say most women), hormonal BC can kill your sex drive.  It's a common side effect.

So, I wouldn't expect it to increase unless your BC had diminished it in the first place.

  • I stopped taking BC at the end of Dec. 2009. I have to say that there was no 'light switch', but I think it has gotten a little better. I was hoping for something more dramatic, but I guess time will tell. GL!
  • Everyone's body is different... I say just have patience.
  • around a month

  • I agree with the placebo effect to a point...believe it will be better and it will.  In reality, it took me about a month as well to notice a big difference.  The more you do it, the more you will want to as well.  This may be TMI but I noticed less of a problem with dryness as well!  Lots of fun to look forward to!
  • I got off BC in December and a few weeks later my sex drive was way up. Also, my natural lubrication was way better! I stopped taking BC because it made me feel kind of bad and without my natural lube, sex wasn't as enjoyable.  I'm much better now, just have to deal with irregular periods.

  • I stopped using my BC after my period in Feb. I haven't had much of an increase yet. But I have been under a lot of stress and the hubby and I have both been sick, so we haven't had much sexy time.

However, I did have the BEST period ever after being off the BC. Two days of light cramps and medium flow and then done! I would hardly want to describe a period as awesome, but this one was. I can only hope they stay this way being off BC. On BC I would have 5-6 days of bleeding with horrible cramps. Compared to that, this past one was a breeze!.
