Does anyone still like Bush?
I thought that might be another Unity Horse issue but don't want to assume that there aren't any 19-percenters on here.
Re: Does anyone still like Bush?
I am impressed at your smilie skills, Meredith.
What follows is a bunch of hypothesizing about our conservatives from my own observation, 'cause I'm not sure if they'll play. I apologize in advance if it's unrepresentative at all.
There are no Bush "supporters" here that I know of. I think there's plenty who would defend him to the likes of you or I, and certainly a bunch who voted for him once or twice, but I haven't seen anyone say "yeah, he's a great president, I wish he were running instead of McCain".
Whereas most us liberals would say they don't like him because of the war, or the patriot act, from what I've seen the conservatives here would say they don't like him because of his expansion of gov't and gov't spending.
It's kinda like McCain. I don't know many on this board who are big gung-ho supporters of his, but they'll definitely defend him against the other side.
I like Bush as a person. As a leader where I believe he failed was in choosing that butthole Cheney as VP and giving him too much power.
Ahhh I can only dream of how different and better a Bush presidency had been with another VP!
I also think he let spending get out of control but overall I do not think he was the worst president ever. Having lived through Jimmy Carter even though I was a teenager I will never forget how bad that was.
Now to turn off the computer at work and go home! Yippee!

computer or nest went nuts!
deleting this multiple post as something went nuts here!
I like Bush, I don't like all of the choices he's made, but I actually appreciate that he does what he thinks is best, and doesn't succumb to political pressure and opinion, especially when it comes to the military. While I know I'm in the minority here, I don't ever want a Prez that bases military strategy or public opinion. That said, his spending is out of control, and he waited too long to change course in Iraq, IMO. I also think he's been vilified by much of the press, and painted as unintelligent from day 1. I also get personally offended (not saying it's logical, just how I feel) by what I see as "southern stereotyping" when it comes to him.
I still believe he was the best of the choices in 2000, and in 2004.
Now I'm going to back out of this post and pretend I was never here. I don't have the energy for major defense today, but still felt like I should respond to your honest question.

I actually agree that he definitely has strength of conviction and doesn't bow to political pressure.
I beg to differ on him being mistreated by the press as less than intelligent. He brags about being a C-student and uses his "aw shucks" persona when it suits him.
BUSH IS FROM CONNECTICUT!!!!! HE IS NEITHER TEXAN, NOR SOUTHERN!!!!!!!!!!!
