So why is blondg8rbride so hated?

I haven't read a lot of her posts, but what I have read are posts that reflect  socially conservative views.  As a social conservative myself, I can't help wondering whether the hate towards her has a lot to do with her views on topics such as abortion.

Is there something I'm missing?  If so, please enlighten me.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.

Re: So why is blondg8rbride so hated?

  • No, it's because she's arrogant and dimwitted. She's also a law student, and I think she really irritates the lawyers on here (like me) with her failed attempts at legal analysis.

  • It's because she posts a lot of things that are just plain nonsensical, then refuses to respond when called out on them. She's made a number of personal attacks on people, and she's frequently obnoxious and sarcastic where it's really not necessary.

Oh, and she's really obnoxious about the whole "Well I'M a law student..." thing too.

I think we've been pretty fair on here (see the post below) about calling out the left-leaning posters who do the same things.

    "I
  • SHe is almost as obnoixous as voldemort and she isnt a troll. It has nothing to do with her beliefs and everything to do with how she presents them.

  • Oh, also the fact that she spells her name g8r instead of "gator." No one over the age of 14 should do that.

  • Because she is not smart. And she desperately believes she is.

And because she says things like the following:

"the only people who should be allowed to call themselves African Americans are those who immigrated legally to this country from Africa but have not yet become citizens, but plan on doing so. Once they become citizens they are just plain American and it is unpatriotic for anyone to identify as anything but."

It has nothing to do with her beliefs. It's that she can't substantiate them with logic or stand behind anything she says because she lacks the capacity for critical analysis. There are plenty of very smart, relatively socially conservative people around here, and none of them are met with the derision she is, because they can speak halfway intelligently on what they believe and why, and are therefore respected.

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • Her ideology seriously affects her view of reality.
  • It's not about her views at all. I would hope you have a higher opinion of the women of this board to think we wouldn't like someone based on their viewpoints. Aren't we beyond this?

Rather, the dislike of g8tor has everything to do with the way she presents her viewpoints. She is incredibly snotty, she doesn't listen to the other side, she doesn't respond when her logical fallacies are pointed out to her, and she says things like "thanks for playing" when she has nothing left. And as a recent law grad, I do have to scratch my head at some of her reasoning skills. Please note, none of this has to do with her personal views.

On a personal level though, I have to say, I find people who sub numbers for letters to be incrediably immature and dimwitted. Her name grates on me. Or should I say gr8ts on me.

  • I was probably biased from the outset because she was on my knot club board, but her smugness bothers me.

I don't think it's the social conservatism per se because I know some IRL that don't bother me that way even though I disagree with many of their views.  (Or 2Vermont on this board, for that matter.)  And I get equally annoyed with quite a few of the liberal foils to g8r too.  Equal opportunity annoyance!

  • Ditto all. She has no interest in learning anything new or carrying on a civil discussion. She spews pat, snotty remarks and doesn't engage conversations. Her responses are mostly cliches like "thanks for playing" etc, if she responds at all.
  • Ditto all.  This girl lacks the ability to critically analyze thoughts and defend her positions through actual mental exercise.  IMO, she sounds like a parrot who can only spit out what someone else tells her.  I consider myself a conservative and cringe when she posts her opinions.
  • she said that whoopi goldberg should not be taken seriously because of her clothing choices. WTF.
  • Please see the immediate previous post if you think the hatred is only due to social conservatism:

I actually do...that's why I am asking rather than jumping to conclusions.  I guess I just get annoyed when I know the person is a social conservative because, although I sense that most people feel differently about me now, I got a lot of crap when I first joined the board because of my views on abortion and gay marriage.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
  • I trend conservative and am an attorney, but no one gives me a hard time on here because I try to be courteous and respectful of others' opinions, and so I am usually treated with the same respect.  Thus, I doubt her political views are the sole or primary source of the anger.

I suspect if she could acknowledge, just once, the merit of an opinion that differs from hers, and not lob spitballs when she disagrees with people, she could be treated respectfully as well.

2Vermont, there is no comparison between you and gator, none whatsoever.

  • 2vermont, you and I do not agree politically, but I do not put you in the same category as g8888r. You think about WHY you believe things and try to convey your opinions in a respectful manner. She definitely does not.

And it's not about being conservative. She actually has a liberal equivalent (kristen + kevin, or something) who as just as aggravating.

  • Her "thanks for playing" shtick really gets me more than anything else.

  • I like her, but I am not reliable because I do not read many of her posts.  I only remember two or three.

  • I will say this.  A lot of times people are called out for not "engaging" or discussing, but when you know that your post is going to be met with kneejerk talking points from the other side, who outnumber you 3-1,  what is the point?  Why be constantly on the defense when you can get your story out there and move on with your life?  I came to this conclusion when even debunked stories were still treated as factual.

I will admit---sometimes I don't have time to read the info, but a lot of other times I don't even go back to my posts on E08 because I know that the responses are going to be hogwash by dummies.  I am on there to get out my opinion and spread my viewpoint, not read a half-baked discussion by people way stupider than I am.  I am speaking of the new board---E08, not Aug. 2006.

It's easy to say "engage" when you're met with a cheering section of likeminded people every time you type something, no matter how intellectually vacant.

No you didn't.  You got crap for the way you presented them.  There are a number of conservatives on this board.  We may disagree with each other, but I think as long as people are actually engaged in the discussion, people are pretty tolerant of those different views.

I agree that I have gotten better with the way I word things, but those that gave me crap don't get a free pass either.  Many people read what I wrote in a certain way because of their own biases towards those that are pro-life, religious, and/or anti-gay marriagePosters made assumptions about who I was and what I stood for and believed in and why I posted the topic in the first place (it's amazing how many people "knew" my intentions).

I still believe there is very little tolerance for pro-life views/anti-gay marriage views on this board, and that is why I rarely post about those topics (or I at least try not to).  As for comparing me to the other conservatives, you can't because 99% of them are not socially conservative.

  • 2vermont, it seems like you're purposely trying to compare yourself to g888r and bring up old stuff with you that really has nothing to do with her. That's fine if that's what you want, but why dig up old issues and pour salt in old wounds? Do you really want to get into it, or can we just move on?

I don't even spend that much time over on E08 anymore, and people like g8888r and the lack of an ignore function are the reasons why. She's the worst of the bunch, personality wise, but there are others almost as bad as she is and they fall in all different places on the political spectrum.

Not purposely.....it's just the way the thread has evolved.  I'm not looking to rehash things, but my first reaction is to wonder whether she is being treated unfairly (at least to some degree) because I know how I felt when I first came to this board.  That is where any comparisons are coming from on my end.  Having said that, if someone else makes a comparison of me to gr888r (ie. the way I posted vs the political views), I will respond.

Most of you here seem to have real issues with her (other than her politics), so I will take you at face value.  If even half of what you all have said is true, I'm not so sure I could tolerate her myself.  In fact, I may be less tolerant because I don't need social conservatives like her.  I guess I really need to come to my own conclusions and read more of her posts...maybe even that long one...uggggh.
